Thumbs up Boots stocking "real" LC food!!!

I went into Boots in the City this lunchtime with a friend who was getting a sandwich and lo and behold spotted the "Atkins" logo on a salad type pack with the "net carbs" sign and number of carbs displayed just like on Atkins products!!! I immediately started grabbing the packs to see the variety and I must say it's not that bad at all!!!

A tad pricy and not an everyday buy (I have just had the Gourmet prawns and honey roast salmon salad = 4 net carbs for £4.30!) ingredients are prawns, free range egg, honey roast salmon, mixed leaves and cucumber with lemon and cracked black pepper dressing. The lowest carb pack was 2 net carbs for the chicken salad and the highest was 8 net carbs (don't remember what it was for). There were only about six choices but still a start ey??? I sincerely hope it's the end of the DIY lunches that one has to pack everyday to work! With a two year old to "pack" off the nursery every morning, it's becoming harder to make lunch as well and this is therefore a handy and easy alternative (although pricy!)

Just thought I'd share .... if anyone else has posted already sorry for the double info!

Wow, that's great! Finally they are starting to realise what we need. I just wonder how long it will take to reach the boots in Wales. I'll have to check it out on monday. The one you had sounded quite yummy. Hopefully they'll bring the price down because that's very expensive, is it a big salad? Or the same size as their others?

Same size as the others unfortunately! A lot of water needs to be drank before and after to give the "full up" feeling LOL!! But yeah, good news I think and I hope it reaches Wales soon!! I did try their website to see if I could find a picture but no joy!

I've seen these and think they're a bit of a rip-off. I can't get excited just because it has an Atkins label on it. THere are plenty of delis/sandwich shops/cafes/supermarkets who will provide something similar as a take-away at lower prices.

There are plenty of naturally LC options without having to rely on pre-packaged things that have 'Atkins' stamped on them.

Sorry to sound cynical, but Boots - like other organisations - have changed their tune now they can see ther'es money in it. It doesn't take too much to see through this con!

I agree that it's a rip-off but at least it's a start of the awareness that LC is here to stay. Hopefully if other outlets start doing the same kind of thing it'll drive the prices down! And that can only be a good thing right???

I had one today and one yesterday- they were really very nice. The bowls are deceptive too - you get more than you think you're getting! I had a goats cheese salad with roasted veggies today and it was lovely. The chargrilled chicken and bacon was nice but the coleslaw with it was waaaay too oniony for me. Still, not bad for 2 net cabs!

I'll have to check out Boots in Newcastle to see if they've spread this far north.

These would fly off the shelves if Boots had the foresight to build a Meal Deal around them. They already offer mineral water and Diet Coke (although flavoured with aspartame) as part of the Meal Deal range - add these salads and the Atkins Bars to the range (though I know, not everyone likes them), charge between £3.50 and £4.00 for the lot and I'm sure they'll sell well.

I had a shock the other day. I went to the cafe where I normally go for my after lunch coffee and tried to get some LC food. Hey presto, one of their salads was green beans, onions and mushrooms. Looked OK, until I saw the price. £4 !!!! The value of items in it was probably less than £0.50... and it was meat free. I asked why it was so expensive and they said, because it is a diet salad. It's vegetarian, low fat and low carbs.... Basically they were admitting that they were ripping people off, beacuse it was the only "diet" choice !!!
I went for my usual Chicken Tikka baguette instead (just throw the baguette away and hope there is no sugar in the filling)..... £2.40 and it had proteins as well.
