I am just kind of curious as to how many carbs do you consume a day.

In induction - this January 2017 -- i was under 20.
Then for about 3 months I was under 30 on days my DP was home and cooking, under 20 when it was just me ...and I kept losing fine. more slowly but that's normal out of induction. My extra ten carbs were all either wine or above-ground veg.
Then for about 3 months i was frustratingly bouncing around -- 50% of the time under 30 and 50% of the time under 60 and I was in a long plateau...I could never stick to lower carbs for more than a few days, I had a high degree of work stress and an injury .... and i now see that also coincides with DP taking the early summer off and was home and cooking every day! I guess i maintained (which is how i wanted to look at it, rather than stall).

Over the summer I travelled and had family stress and stopped recording my food, but stayed on plan except for one bad week when my father died. Gained 6 pounds but dropped them fast. Hit Sept 10 at the same weight i started the summer.

Right now i am doing a second induction (under 20) until Oct 1. Then i will go back to 30 and hope to stick to it for long slow weight loss over the fall and winter.

(im not sure how this is any help, but i hope it is! we are all so different. there are people here who lose on under 80 or 90 carbs a day. And others who only lose under 15 or even 10.)

What do you do?

technically I'm not on Atkins although I started out with induction etc:
I still eat from his induction veggie (vegetables) lists when I'm choosing veggies
I try and keep my carbs under 30g a day

I have been at 20 or under since February.
Lost very quickly in the beginning...last couple of months have stalled.
Just recently gave up cheese and the scale is moving downward slowly again.
I easily see staying at 20 for the rest of my life. I do not feel deprived and eat quite well.

Went back to Atkins 72 induction for a week at 10g of carbs for a week. Added back carbs up to 20g over the next 2 weeks but found increased snacking and gained a couple lbs. Started IF and currently back to less than 10g of carbs per day.

Blue, First of all I am really sorry to hear about the loss of your father...that is way too much for one person....I hope things are getting better....I just want to say thank you for answering my post... I just need a guideline...because the doctor told me to go back to low carb...I had lost over a 100 pounds....and then I started gaining back the weight...the lower my carbs went or the higher.. low carb just made me gain weight.. after eliminated lots of foods...so I just needed like I said a guideline...

Hey Sunny59!

My condolences to you and your family concerning the loss of your father.

Imma one of the few people responding to your original post that eats well under 10 carb grams and have been doing so since July 2013.

I consider myself über carb sensitive and it terrifies me to try to increase my carb limit b/c I've had decades of yo-yo dieting.

I don't know where that line in the sand is concerning how many carbs is too many for me... I know that ONCE I go over that line everything I've worked so hard for will fold like a house of cards b/c of that aforementioned yo-yoing and my addiction to carbs. I carbs but they don't love me back.

We all have to find what works for us as individuals to lose the weight and keep it off. Staying with A '72 Induction level carbs and IFing has been my golden ticket to better health and losing/keeping off the weight.

Wishing you much success on your journey to better HEALTH!

Good Morning Joe...

It was Blue who lost her father... I was saying the same thing to her..

Well I did Low Carb.. and I lost 125 pounds...and then for no good reason...I started gaining weight.. I eliminated everything until I was almost at zero carbs.. I have been on a calorie counting diet...lower in carbs...and I lost 43 pounds since December.. but now it's like pulling teeth to lose weight...so while I do NOT want to go on low carb... the doctor suggested it.. so while I know it's personal to everyone how many carbs.. I needed to have a general idea where people were....that's all ...

Blue- I am very sorry for your loss. I am very glad you are taking steps to take care of yourself, I'm sure that is what your father would hope you are able to do.

I eat 30-35 carbs per day (I do subtract fiber). I'm in maintenance, but carbs are the same to lose weight and the same to gain after a very long illness left me seriously underweight.

I don't feel well at ALL if I go in twenties consistently. I get dizzy, and my blood pressure drops to point that I get head rushes and feel faint. I have problems with my electrolytes, etc..... Granted in a type one diabetic, very thin and very active- my point is, we are all different.

How are YOU feeling?

I really appreciate all of your help.. I have done Low Carb a few times from Induction to all of the wrungs... I lost over 125 pounds on it.. so I realize we are different and have different carb tolerances.. I was just curious as to where everyone is carb wise is all....

Most days, >90%, well under 20g/d. Of that remaining 10%, in the past five years (~270 weeks), I've gone high carb maybe 15 weeks. The rest off the days were like one-off experiences, i.e. seeing if I tolerate wheat as well as rice or potatoes (conclusion: I'm allergic to wheat) where I didn't average more than 140g per week.

I've never found my carb limit. I know I'm too inconsistent with many choices and I don't trust myself.

Was it next day "gain?" Wings are loaded with sodium, so it might have just been bloat. I thought I'd ask, because wings are delicious and I would hate for you to restrict them, if you don't need to.

That's kind of the problems with stalls and ratcheting up the carb ladder, etc. If you gain weight, you start questioning everything and you might be right about at least one thing you're questioning or maybe not.

In the end I think it's more about what helps peace of mind.
