Question Why does the Stillman Diet allow cottage cheese?

Isn't it rather high in carbs? 5 carbs per 1/2 cup...as I thought that it is to be a "no carb diet"..??

Also, is it just me b/c everytime I try and click on a link for the "doctor's quick weight loss diet" or "stillman diet" I can't find any info on the net??

Thanks!
Jess

Hi! I don't know that much about the Stillmans diet. but I think in the revision of the Atkins diet Cottage Cheese is allowed on Induction also. So, maybe it is for people that can handle the cheeses in their diets without stalling.
After all low carb includes cheeses and that is what cottage cheese is, a form of cheese.
I hope you find your answer.
Good Luck
Brenda

The Stillman Quick Weight Loss diet is not a low carb diet per se, it's a low CALORIE diet that consists of lean protein, a few seasonings and zero-calorie beverages and that's about it. The original plan allowed ketchup, cocktail sauce, mustard, lemon and lime juice (in reasonable amounts, of course ), absolutely no fats or oils to be used, meats trimmed of every speck of fat, skin off poultry, leanest types of fish only. It was specified that the cottage, farmers or pot cheese was to be made from skim milk, not whole. Actually, any skim milk cheese was allowed, but I assume he meant natural cheese, not imitation fat-free cheese.

hth,

Doreen

From http://www.atkins.com

Cheese
You can consume three to four ounces daily of the following full-fat, firm, soft and semisoft aged cheeses*, including:

cheddar
cow, sheep and goat cheese
cream cheese
Gouda
mozzarella
Roquefort and other blue cheeses
Swiss

Note that cottage cheese, farmer’s cheese and other fresh cheeses are not permitted during Induction.

Hope this answers any questions,
Kim
