Just tried to post in my own journal and stalled twice. This time \ I was actually LOOKING at the screen when it happened. There is a visual 'blink', 'flash' something of that nature and I KNOW when I hit the next key, nothing is going \ to happen. It has done it twice on here this time as indicated by the \ . The mouse pointer also switches from the long capital 'I' thingy to a pointer and back again.

I'm hoping that all of this information, not matter how silly it sounds is go\ going to be a clue for someone to figure out what is going wrong here.

That made 3 stalls in all. \ No, four! When I move the mouse pointer to where the cursor stalled, the Post Quick Reply button actually moves. Another clue? \ Could this be a sick mouse?

I need a nap! \ Thanks guys!

Have you tried to call Dell's tech support?

Did Dell install this Kodak thing? Does it have to be on all the time?

You might want to shutdown these programs, and not have them run constantly.

If I lived in your town, I'd come over and install a real nice operating system, Linux

The keyboard is also just 3 weeks old and this problem happened with the old keyboard too.

The Kodak program is one I installed. But this problem continued even after I uninstalled the entire thing.

The last Dell tech person I talked to said it had to be a site problem since it only happened here. The one before I could not understand. Will try calling them again and find one who speaks English.

Again...thanks for all of the help.

That doesn't make sense.... How can a site slow down your computer.... It's not like we're running Java and Flash animation/games to slow it down.

When you talk to a Dell tech, don't give them an easy excuse by saying it's a bout a site, since, by policy, they will always say they can't help with specific sites. The real problem is about the large amount of background software and spyware (like backweb) that is running and slowing down your PC.

I agree with Wa'il, you have two music players running, Quick Time and Musicmatch, you only need those on if you happen to be listenting to music/videos or news. The windows messenger too, unless you chatting all the time with it, no need for it to be running.

Wish you luck, it can make you want to tear your hair out sometimes

WOOHOO! Wa'il it WAS the Kodak updater! I am totally confused about it too, since I completely uninstalled the entire Kodak program....updater and all and the posting problems continued. This morning I went in and uninstalled JUST the updater and this is my 7th post and not one single stall!

Thank you so very, VERY much for all of the help...and everybody else that tried to help me! I can't begin to tell you how much that meant to me. I'm doing the happy dance here!

I know the original problem here has been solved, but I was reading this thread, and started googling some things in my startup.

I came across this site: Windows Startup Online. They have a search feature - it identified every single program that was running (including an old freeware firewall that I had forgotten about and no longer use) and told me its purpose and the consequences of removing it from Startup. My computer is over four years old and running Windows 98SE - I keep it very clean, but I found this site very helpful, and thought it might be of use/interest to others.
