I have PCOS and I had gallstones. I had my gallbladder out last year. Thank God!! The pain was horrible. I was sick all the time and had no idea why.

They say that if you're "female, forty, fat and fertile" then you are at highest risk for gallstones. Because of the PCOS, I'm not fertile, but I'm female, fat and close to 40, so I guess 3 out of 4 is close enough.

I've read that gallstones have more to do with a history of yo-yo dieting. There also appears to be some corelation between PCOS and yo-yo dieting (i.e., starvation diets trigger the gene that protects the body against famine by efficiently storing fat and shutting down the ovaries in anticipation of the next famine). So, I guess PCOS is indirectly linked to gallstones for that reason.

My sister had her gallbladder out, and she has PCOS, but she was definitely yo-yo dieting. One year of Nutri/System, then gained weight, then one year Jenny Craig. I think the binges mixed in with the very low-fat diets did something - the gall bladder releases bile to help digest fats, so if you eat very low fat and then suddenly eat a fatty meal, it tends to cause you some problems.

But I honestly don't know if gall bladder problems are more likely in the PCOS population.

Best of luck with that! I hope it isn't hurting you. I understand it can be painful, but it isn't always. One of my friends in her 40s has gallstones, but they don't hurt.

well they was hurtin for 3 months but since i had my scan last month they havnt hurt since. and if mine are meant to be larger then most seems odd it comes and goes, but if i leave it cause they dont hurt at present, someone told me that if i make arrangements to have them out when they DO hurt then i could be waiting a long time for the op so best get it done asap before they get worse
