Default Coconut Oil

Has anyone found any solid information on coconut oil and heart disease?

The only thing I've found so far are the extremes:

1-older medical reports citing that since coconut oils are saturated fats, they are bad for your heart because bad LDL will go up.

2-coconut oil proponents who appear to be basing their opinions more on getting more sales. They say the fat is a medium chain triglyceride, and is a 'separate' form of saturated fat and will not contribute to heart disease.

I really would like to see some actual unbiased studies, but can't seem to find any at this time. If you know of any, please direct me to them.

I'd love to add more LC coconut products to my diet. One protein shake I've been buying bases their fats on coconut oils, and as a result, is simply the best tasting, most fulfilling protein shake ever. But I don't want to keep taking it, if its going to cause my body to generate bad versions of cholesterol.

I haven't, at least nothing I'd consider reliable.

Can I ask the name of the shake?

I use coconut oil for cooking. When I started using it my HDL went up dramatically. My LDL didn't change.

Its called Muscle Milk from CytoSport. Its not 100% LC, but its mainly fat and protein, and tastes amazing, atleast to me, especially if I make it thick like a shake.

I've heard of muscle milk. Maybe I'll give it a try. I use the EAS Myoplex Carb Control. Love the strawberry! Choclate is yummy too, but not for breakfast, when I usually have the shakes.

The only 'drawback' with muscle milk, is it does have a larger amount of carbs, (6g sugar, 12g total). So I mainly use them 'as needed', and never more than 1 pack a day. If I can get by on a day without them, then thats what I do.

http://www.coconutresearchcenter.org THis thread is probably no longer attracting any interested parties but I like this article on coconut oil. I have read this and many other articles supporting the use of coconut oil and its ability to protect the heart. I also have the book Coconut Oil Miracle, which I highly recommend. The first article I have ever read on this subject was in a magazine titled "She Knows Low-Carb" which is an e-zine now.

I have had the Micellar Milk in the past looks extremely similar. It has 4g sugar in the D. Choco. though. 1 a day shouldn't be a problem. Looks like you are doing great on the LC, keep it up!

Default Coconut

I used coconut oil for cooking for a couple of months.
I will still sometimes have an Atkins Advantage coconut
bar(yummm!).I havn't noticed any good effects or bad
effects from coconut.Coconut oil is aupposed to be healthy
because it contains lauric acid(main component of mother's
milk). For me,coconut oil is a little too expensive.

Eddie, I hear that Asian markets, here in the states of course, have it for at a more reasonable price.
