Default my husband

My husband has been doing the atkins plan with me. He has been on it for about five weeks now--and he just cannot get in ketosis or show any weight loss. He is ready to give up and I can't say I blame him. I know he is only sticking to what we should-(besides the one week we were eating atkins bars-which we have cut out completely) we are eating nothing but low carb green veges and meat, eggs. I don't know how else to help him not get discouraged.

Default secret vice?

Does he possibly have a secret vice - drinking Pepsi or eating chips - that he considers to be 'no biggie' but he does it when he's not around you? Grabbing something from the vending machine at work, for example - and thinking it's so small, it can't matter?

How does he know he's not in ketosis? If he's relying on the sticks, know that they don't work for everyone.

Is he eating enough food??? both in calories and in carbs?

What green vegetables are you eating?

Are you getting 12-15 net carbs from your vegetables (of whatever color!)?

How about adding some fat? Too little fat could inhibit weight loss.

I would be happy to give some insight... it's hard to do when you are just saying he's eating on plan....

Show me an example of what he is eating/drinking... what type of exercise he's getting and I'd be very happy to offer suggestions.

How much does he weigh? Lower weight people will lose much more slowly, it seems.

I agree with T-man. We definitely need more detailed information before we can offer any real advice. Otherwise, all we can do is toss out vague possibilites, which may or may not have any real bearing on your DH's situation.

BTW, I'm one of those people who never registers on ketostix, but I've certainly lost plenty of weight.

Do give us more information, if you can, so we can provide some real help.

Aye

We cant help unless we know several things:

1. The food he eats. Is he logging everything he eats? We need to know exactly everything he is eating.
2. His weight and inches. Is his weight lower than when he started? What about his inches?
3. How does he know he isn't in ketosis? Is it by the sticks? If so, you cannot rely on those 100%. I've known people who lost more weight depsite the lightest shade of purple and vice versa
4. (this goes hand in hand to number one). How much sodium is he consuming? What about diet soda? What about cheese? What about coffee? These are all weight stallers.

I don't think I have met a person who followed the plan longterm and didn't lose any weight at all. Maybe some adjustments are in order for the woe he is following.

Default new scale

Also, something to consider: a new scale, or at least a second one to check against the first. I was using a scale in the Y fitness room for the longest time a couple of years ago. It was off by a couple of pounds but at least it was consistent. And it was one of those scales like they have in doctor's offices! A worse problem is a scale that is off and INconsistent.
