Default How to effectively break a weight plateau

I am a complete newbie when it comes to losing weight.

I started a real push to lose weight after I was put on adderall for my ADD, I lost ALL my appetite, so I was always eating at 500-1000calorie deficit. Twenty pounds literally fell off me. I have been on a generic low carb diet, and have been in 'ketosis' since day two, but it seems the progress I made has started to slow.....

My usual meals

Mornings: Bacon or a couple peanuts(literally 5)
Lunch Sauteed steak/onion/peppers
Dinner: hamburger meat
Fill in tons of water through out the day.
none of the above usually exceeds 2000calories

My body is literally screaming for a fat slice of pizza or a taco bell chalupa; however I am not sure if I should do a carb load day, and go straight back to low carb? I am afraid if I break my diet/deficit I will yoyo all my weight back.

I was 265, I am now 245, and I need to be 210/215 within the next 3-4 months for my Police Academy Physical Abilities Weigh in. If you are not in that weight range, kiss your chances goodbye.

I am at a loss of what to do, I am eating at a deficit in calories, I keep my body in 'ketosis' so I am 'burning fat for energy'. I need a way to break this 245 plateau. I need to jump back into exercising, maybe that would help Any ideas?

Try adding some fat first and see if that satisfies your cravings.

Have you made poppers--bacon, hot peppers, cream cheese? If that doesn't kill the pizza cravings, nothing will.

Some have suggested upping calories to see if that shakes things loose.

If that doesn't work, try a small controlled carb up (i.e. 2 pieces of pizza and you give the rest to your neighbor).

Exercise I would consider High Intensity Interval Training or Lactic Acid Training (aka Metabolic Conditioning). But if you are out of shape, you can't start there, you need to work up to it.

I would suggest moving to the second phase of Atkins (it is called ongoing weight loss for a reason ) and starting to add more carbs from vegetables as you do not seem to be eating many at present.

Better to grate whatever cheese you're allowed at your current level, and melt it in the oven or microwave with some pepperoni or other meat and whatever other toppings fit your current carb allowance. Or there's a number of low-carb pizza crust recipes in the recipe section.

Steak and hamburger meat sound like you're doing low-fat low carb. I would research "Kimkins", not to emulate at all, just to see how unhealthy it is ( and sort of an epic scam, too ).

Add some coconut oil, it is supposed to rev UP your metabolism. Don't be afraid of fats, they're what humans evolved to do well on.

When I crave pizza I go get a 5.00 Little Caesars and just eat the topping that's the best part anyway

Eat more veggies. I always lose better when I'm eating enough veggies.

I appreciate all the help, all the tips were definitely noted.

I am now down to 241.2lbs, that was a fresh weigh in after I woke up.

I finally cracked last night and had a small MT Dew Slushie from seven eleven, my body was craving sugar, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to give my body a little something good.

Came home and had some amazing Sauteed Steak in Hickory smoked bacon, diced onions/tomatoes. Whoever said you can't eat good on low carb was wrong

Now I haven't started my cardio program yet, I don't know how much better I can do than I am doing now if I ride my bike, start running, or start lifting again. I would like to get into the 210/215 range. It is nice to see my ab outlines again, now to clear that remaining little pudge on the belly would be awesome.

Appreciate your help guys.

My best suggestion to you would be to pick a plan - Protein Power, Atkins, South Beach, etc. and then follow it by reading the book. I know you mention having a big goal, so you need to do what it takes to get there, kwim? If you need something sweet there are several low carb treats you can eat

Agreed. When craving sweets the best thing to do is to have a lc option. Many of them will fulfill the craving AND be good for your body.
