I've added it to sugar-free ketchup with various spices to make a pretty decent barbecue. But that was ribs in a crockpot. I usually use cinnamon to help bring out the sweetness.
Once I didn't have any sweetener in the house, so I used sugar-free cherry Kool-aid. Sounds weird but it turned out great.
I just use various spices for the rub, and make up a BBQ sauce with sweetener (sugar or molasses as he is not LC) for my husband. My taste is more for savory things, and have never developed a taste for adding sweet when I could add interesting spices instead. I also don't use the sauce myself; it's just for my DH. Agree with teaser that cinnamon would add a sweet note.
I used cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic & onion powder, salt & pepper, two teaspoons of Stevia mixed with one of cinnamon.
I wrapped them in foil and baked them in the oven at 225 for about 2 hours then took them out of the foil and grilled them on mesquite till they were done. Came out great!
