Ou live in the Nevada desert huh? I think that would feel hotter than here. The ritudine I have in the cupboard and it's the OTC kind. Someday when feeling bad I'll try it. I got a cataract removed from my left eye last Monday. What a difference it makes as I have almost 20 20 in that eye. Had to pop the lense out of my glasses Friday. I normally wear trifocals. I get the right eye done on the 17th and there'll be a whole new world.

Default Day 3 and a slightly new direction

Still learning my way around these boards. I'm learning the ins and outs of a "lifestyle" as opposed to a "diet". These tips are invaluable.

Somewhere here, and I can't find it again, there was a post about self image. Just because we're not 30 or 40 doesn't mean we don't want to present ourselves to the world as healthy senior citizens. How fortunate for us there are so many opportunities to accomplish that, if we're willing to do the leg work.

Having said that, I've realized I didn't do the best job of staying LC this weekend, possibly too many options to start with..so I looked up Atkins 72 and today is my first day of doing '72. Seems like a straight forward simple enough way to get my body into fat burning mode.

Congrat on restart. This is a winding road and I've been on it a very long time, still taking detours now and again. IMO the secret is not to give in altogether. We pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, and, well, you know.

You'll do great.

My family farm is just outside Florence, TX and I can tell you it's hotter for me there in the summer. We don't have humidity in the Nevada desert. Still hot, but not dripping.

Re eyes: My eyesight has gotten better over the years, but I have very dry eyes so I do my walking before the sun comes up and shopping very early in the morning.

Take care of you.

Hi everyone. I just found this thread. 70 is in my rear view mirror, so I guess I qualify. I have several of the health issues of others here and I can add Type 2 Diabetes to the list. Low carb helps with that.

I'm going to look into the Zantac as Claritin doesn't do a great job on my seasonal allergies, like today, when I can't see for the watery eyes.

This is what I'm taking now, and the doctor says it's okay:

Nasacort allergy 24 hr on rising 2 spritzes per nostril
Ranitidine 300 on rising (60 tabs cost me $8)
Ranitidine 300 12 hrs later
Refresh preservative-free eye drops before bed

My nose is clear most of the day and my eyes drip very little.

Allergies are no fun.

How much do you use? I have at least 2 cups of coffee every morning and could put some in them. My knees have been replaced but my elbows, ankles and fingers need help.

You sound like me...I'm 71, retired and moved to AZ from the frozen N.E. to be with my son, his family and lots of sunshine but have fallen short of the glory. After treating sever back issues that kept me from walking much, I'm now able to walk 1/2 mile with a cane. Chiro. suggested losing some weight, since he's LC and doing well on it, so I'm here. I came to this forum in Jan 2015, but have been eating LC since 1972. I was diagnosed pre diabetic in my 20s and I'll be 72 this July.

Obviously, I didn't stay on plan all the time over the years and my A1C was consistently in the upper 5 readings. I was unable to lose weight and my fingers and hands ached from arthritis.

At my latest lab results my A1C read low 5s and I no longer have arthritis pains. I'm also losing weight again. Since last September I've lost over 10 lbs.

Every Body is different, and what worked for me may not work for you. But I'm proof that there is hope, no matter how old we are. There is hope for better, improved health and quality of life.

Bluesinger, I am right behind you, 72 coming up in January. I have the achy hands right now, but it goes away occasionally and I don't know what is making the difference. I don't take anything for it, but I do rub some Aspercreme on my fingers when it's really bad.

I am full blown type 2 and my A1c is much higher than yours. I'm working on it, but I'm not as diligent as I know I should be.

In 2015 my hands were so bad that I bought arthritis gloves and two different kinds of mitts, the kind you warm up in the microwave for relief. Now I don't need them.

I take anti inflammatory supplements, but that, too, is individual. It's so hard to tell what works and doesn't because natural remedies move slower in efficacy. I take turmeric capsules and garlic, as well as fish oils. Who knows what works and what doesn't because I've left so many foods out of my diet as well. Maybe it was the cow's milk dairy that was causing my finger joints to burn, or the nuts. Maybe just losing more weight worked. All we can do is experiment on ourselves.

As for your T2D, have you considered Dr. Fung's protocol? IF helped me in so many ways. All I know for certain is that my conditions would have only gotten worse if I hadn't just kept on trying.

One. Damned. Minute. At. A. Time.

Having a senior moment or two, I forgot I had posted on this thread! LOL

I have read a lot of Dr Fung's blog and I recently bought and am reading his new book, Complete Guide to Fasting. I have tried fasting but struggle. Just need to keep working on it.....start with short daily fasts and eventually try for longer ones.

I'm lurking here, too. I'm a "junior senior," 62, recently retired, still figuring out this new chapter but 100% determined to do it feeling well!
