Smile Newbie trying Addictocarb

Hi all, I think this is my first attempt at low carb, although over the years I've tried LOTS of diets so maybe not. I need to lose at least 65 lbs, and preferably 90. I liked the look of the Addictocarb method; I am definitely addicted to all forms of carbs, not just sugar and white flour. Today is day 3, so tomorrow I get to eat real food again after three days of fruit and milk smoothies. It hasn't been that hard, surprisingly. There is a website with a place to ask questions, but no one has answered mine. I am hoping to find others here that use that method. Anyone??

Welcome Klutzy.

I've never heard of Addictocarb, but if I understand you correctly, you are trying to break your addiction to carbs by eating rapidly assimilated carbs in the form of milk and fruit smoothies?

By what mechanism does that break your addiction? Not to be discouraging, but most of the folks on this site find that the only way to break that addiction is to STOP eating more than minimal carbs.

Glad you are here and hope you will spend some time checking out the plans that those here will be familiar with and which have proved to be successful for them:

Hey Klutzy, I had not heard of Addicocarb either but did a little searching and found these 9 as the most addictive?

Bread
Potatoes
Pasta
Flour
Rice
Sugar
High-fructose corn syrup
Fruit juice
Soda

That's a damn good list! If you can completely avoid those above, and I have done it for over a year using High Fat/Low Carb type plan, your body will thank you! - I explain it to folks this way, stealing the idea from a nice lady on the internet, NO GPS (Grains, Potatoes or Sugar) but unlike your plan (maybe you are in the first stages of it) I avoid sweet FRUIT too.

When someone asks me if I eat fruit I say I do and enumerate some for them; Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Avocados, Olives and Peppers

Good luck and keep reading around. Don't be scared off, you are welcome here as long as you don't start talking about extended fasting <--- inside joke but serious!

I took a look at the website & it sounds like just the opposite of low carb/high fat! The ADA would approve of the high carbs for diabetics.

Is your goal to lose weight and then go back to eating the way you were before? I ask this, because, like many here on the forum, I've been around the "diet" block before.

As you read the posts here, you'll learn a lot about the people who have long-term success. You'll also see that people come and go and then come back again. The reason is usually that the WayOfEating they've chosen is not sustainable.

Each and every diet out there, no matter which kind, will result in weight loss at first. Thing is, the WOE we choose has to be one we can live with. If we are addicted to carbs (or for whatever reason we got fat), we just can't go back to eating the way we did and not expect to regain the weight we lost plus some extra. It just happens. Over and over again.

I read a review of the plan Addictocarb, but it wasn't favorable. Seems like just another diet book scam: "Buy my book and this time you'll lose the weight forever." Not saying following the book's rules won't let you lose weight at first, just wondering if the WOE is sustainable.

There are many paths to success, and we are all different. But three days of carb loading followed by the rest of the Addictocarb plan could make you feel pretty terrible. When/if that hits, read posts about Atkins Flu.

We want you to be healthy and reach your goal. We're on your side.
