Default New but not new, and hypo

Hello everyone! I am not new to low carbing because I did it years ago and was quite successful. I gained a bunch of weight after having my last child and low carbing didn't work again. It was discovered I have hypothyroidism (totally runs in my family). So I hit it even harder, including working out, and after some very scary instances, and two stints in the hospital, we discovered I was non-diabetic hypoglycemic. SCARY! The lowest my blood sugar has gotten is 52 and that caused the typical symptoms including severe dizziness and shakiness but also the worst migraine I have ever had.
Long story short, I am now 40, weigh about 215, am 5'4", and am going into crime analysis. I want to be fit, in shape, and ready to work along side my police department in the next year or so.
Low carbing made me feel good when I did it before! I wasn't hungry and I felt great. But a few years ago I went low carb again and almost passed out at the grocery store.
Anyone have any advice? Experience? I know some people have hypo symptoms but that's not me. I am "diagnosed, test my blood sugar 4 times a day, eat every 3 hours" hypo. Anyone else? Thanks!!

Welcome back to low carb

I'm not hypo, but I'm type 1 diabetic- so I know what 52 feels like, and it is scary!

Always, always keep glucose tabs on you. In a true emergency, the benefit far outweighs the risk of wrapping your car around a tree, seizing, etc.....

For mild lows, I treat with 1/4 quest bar or a Greek yogurt- they both raise my big quickly enough and have protein to keep me up.

For preventing your lows- I would encourage you to eat regularly. Going too long between meals can get me in trouble.

how is it going this time?

Good for you! Sorry to hear about the stress. It is such a good idea to always have snacks with you. If I am not home, this becomes an issue for me. Make sure you pack a daily bag. I spend Sundays trying to chop and organize snacks for the week.

I do understand your concerns and wish you the best.

Hey guys! Thanks for the responses. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I do always have a snack and/or glucose tabs. That's the story of my life. Just wish I didn't have to OBSESS over food all the time. I just know I can't go very low carb or my sugar drops so low. I have had people tell me "eat a handful of nuts" or "snack on some jerky" but when I did that my blood sugar just kept plummeting. I try to just eat lower in carbs rather than full-on low carb, but that doesn't help me with my cravings. Oh well. I'll just keep trying!! =0)

I have the hypos too thyroid and blood sugar. When I did the sugar test my blood sugar went to 52, is that what you mean? Or does your blood sugar just drop without sugar causing it?

My blood sugar swings were the worst when I first started on thyroid medication, I think it affected my adrenals and took some time for my body to adjust to everything.

I feel good when I eat 40-50 carbs a day. It seems that lowcarb healed me from being a slave to severe low blood sugar.
