Default Question about close grip lat pulldown equipment

I want to add this to my home workout. All the equipment I have currently at home are a flat bench, pairs of dumbbells up to 35#, swiss ball and pull up bar.

Is there any inexpensive/simple way to add this? I was wondering if I just had a cable that went over the pullup bar - is that feasable? Any ideas?

Thanks!

If you have a pullup bar, what else do you need? Grab the bar with a close grip...and pull.

You can do "cheater chins" by lightly spotting yourself on the floor or the bench or ball until you get strong enough to do pull-ups without cheating. You can also use resistance bands to do cheater pull-ups. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TindOf7zyXM&NR=1

As far as "fashioning" yourself a pulldown thing with what you've got...all I can think might work would be the resistance bands tied to your chin-up bar. But, I don't know how well that would work.

I'm inclined to agree that if you have a pullup bar you don't need a pull down machine. you can reduce your weight by putting your feet on a chair with your knees bent. I know that it never hurts to have more equipment, but there are items to buy which are much higher priority.

We use resistance bands looped over the squat rack.the pull up bar would do the same.Though we do have a bar we run through the bottom of the band. You could get creative and even use a stick for a handle if need be.Then you could adjust your grip as wanted.

But shopping for toys is fun! Seriously, my home gym is 3 kettlebells, 2 dumbells and a $99 power tower (for pullups and dips) that I got from Sports Authority.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I'm gonna try resistance bands with the pullup bar for an assisted pullup and see how that works.
