Default Atkins Support group in Toronto

For anyone who's interested in a low-carb support group, I plan on creating one at my local community centre (519 Church St., Toronto). I need to still hand in the request, but judging by the way the on-hand staff LEPT at me with joy when I said I wanted to start a group, I think it might be approved! I will be handing in my application today, and I hope to host the meetings Saturdays at 4pm-5pm.

I'll be honest, I don't know how to find this list again when I have more information, but I will try to keep everyone posted.

The group is intended for anyone interested in the topic in a supportive manner (naysayers are not welcome), whether you are just starting out, or you are in Phase four maintenance.

Again, I'll keep anyone up to date...

Are there any interested parties out there?

It's a great idea, but 4 - 5 p.m. on a Saturday downtown isn't convenient to me, I'm in the Beaches, but once you get going, if I am down around Church Street at that time, I'd love to drop in. Good luck

I'm interested as well.

The 519 (as it's best known) is at 519 Church St. and although parking can be tight on a Saturday, there is metered parking on the side streets nearby.
The subway is close. The Wellesley stop on the yonge line is a few short blocks away.

Sat 4-5 works for me.

cheers,
glassgirl

Hey everyone

Thanks for all the support! One thing I didn't take into account... The 519 is undergoing renovations soon, and they have lost some of their room space! They are likely not taking any more groups, but that doesn't mean we can't meet over salads or a low carb wrap... or a big ol' chicken wing pig out! We can also consider other community centre locations in the city.

The best times for meeting for me right now are Saturdays 4-5 or so, or on Fridays, after work.

If there is someone smarter than me, could they please post the most effective way for us to contact each other with more personal info, i.e. location in the city, etc.?

Thanks again!

P.S. My cat's name is Itty. Mine is Mary.

Hi,

Fridays after work would be excellent - I live in Burlington so its a bit of a trek in on the Sat.

If it was friday - i could try booking a boardroom at work - but not sure on security etc - will get back to you on that.

Sounds like friday is looking better and better....

I am currently quite flexible to do both days, so if there ends up being two groups, I could go with that!

We'll do this soon, especially before the temptation of Valentine's chocolate overtakes us all!

Keep posting, all. I'll keep looking in here for more interested folks!

P.S. I was 133lbs yesterday!

Sorry - work said its a no no - security would be too tight with little security after work.

Perhaps a cheap bar or something if we go often enough they may even make a low carb menu!

Great!

So at least Vikki, Iklemiss and myself are interested on this board for sure for Fridays! My other friend will also join us (she's semi-Atkins).

Anyone else?

We should get together some time in February and EAT!

Mary

Hi Michele-67 and rice_boi

Can anyone think of a very Atkins friendly place to go? There seems to be a lot of people in the west end, except for Vikki (Beacher!). I am downtown.

I've been to Casey's by the Royal York and their wings were crummy (at least that night).... boy, this makes it very obvious that I never leave my neighbourhood!

What the heck else is there?

If we would like, Feb 6 is open for me. Anyone else?

Mary
