Default SuperStore Carbsense Bread

Hi

I was just reading my Superstore flyer and they now make their own Low Carb Bread. 4 net carbs per slice & it's on special this week $2.99 per loaf is you buy 2. That's alot cheaper than the Atkins Bread $5.99 3 net carbs.

I'm going to run out & buy some today & freeze it!

I saw Superstore's LC bread but didn't really take a good look at it. I already have some LC Atkins bread in the freezer.

Let us know what it's like.

I bought 2 loaves yestrerday and put them in the freezer. I have to finish the Atkins loaf first.

The Super store bread looks pretty good but the slices aren't all the same size so that would vary the amount of carbs per slice.

Ok I had some of the bread and it's good! A little chewy but I think all LC breads are chewy.
So I'll keep buying it. It's less expensive than Atkins.

I was in the Safeway today and speaking with the baker. They make their own LC bread which is just great and 2.99 a loaf. It's not as big a seller as they had hoped as they are now carrying Dempsters and another brand. One thing he mentioned is that they have switched to "pea flour" from "soy flour". I have never heard of pea flour - anyone else?

Might be Chickpea flour, used in health foods and asian dishes for many years. From chick peas or garbanzos.

Chick-pea flour: Gluten-free, chick-pea flour needs to be combined with wheat flour if making baked goods, but can holds its own in pancakes, crepes, and panelle (an Italian dish similar to polenta). Chick-pea flour pancakes are made by stirring water into the flour along with seasonings (no eggs or oil are necessary). The batter needs to sit for 30 minutes before using. For lump-free panelle, combine chick-pea flour and a little cold water to dissolve. Stir mixture into a pot of boiling salted water and cook, stirring all the while until thickened. Add cheese if you like. Pour into a pan or onto a work surface and let firm up. Cut into wedges and saute in olive oil. Serve as a side dish alongside meat or poultry.
