More Atkins dishes

A couple of weeks ago, we published a story about Atkins diet-friendly dishes served in local restaurants. The Atkins diet is a no-carb, high protein diet that's becoming increasingly popular, and we asked readers to nominate other Atkins correct dishes. We got several suggestions, so as promised, we're sharing them.

Angelo's Italian Foods, 1930 S. Oliver, is known for pasta, which is a definite Atkins no-no. But one reader wrote to point out that Angelo's also serves two steaks, a salmon filet and an orange roughy that are perfect for Atkins dieters.

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill, 6730 W. Central, 2035 N. Rock Road and 4760 S. Broadway, has an Atkins-friendly steakhouse salad served with steak, blue cheese vinaigrette and blue cheese crumbles over dark greens.

Chili's Grill & Bar, 7887 E. Central and 10520 W. Central, also has a good salad that qualifies -- the grilled chicken Caesar, which also can be topped with spicy grilled shrimp if so requested.

Red Lobster, 555 S. West, and 333 S. Armour, also has several Atkins-correct dishes, and one reader said her favorite meal is double shrimp scampi, salad and steamed veggies.

Timberline, 8310 E. 21st, and 2243 N. Tyler Road, is the restaurant of choice for one local Atkins dieting couple, who point out that the menu is full of high-protein choices. They'll often order the burger or chicken sandwich without the bun, they said, and the server is always happy to provide several different toppings for the meat.

I wish they wouldn't have described it as "no carb, high protein," but it's good to see the nutritional approach being portrayed positively.

Default Olive Garden does it right!

There are several dishes at Olive Garden that seem to qualify for Atkins, even on induction.

You have to tell them no breadsticks, and hold the croutons in the salad....

There are several fish and chicken dinners served with steamed vegetables instead of pasta. The best ones are their specials from their cooking school in Italy. GREAT STUFF!

I am sure they would substitute as well.

Default Bob Evans too!

Bob Evans offers a great grilled chicken salad on the lunch menu. Just order the dinner portion for a very good LC lunch on the road

"Breakfast Dinners" AT IHOP also work great!

Omelets are easy to order in the LC WOL.

Careful at IHOP I heard they add flour to their omelets to make them fluffier. I think there was a thread a little while back on it.
