Default Starch blockers? yeah or nay?

OK, so I don't know much about these things, but I was wondering, if you have something coming up that you know may jeopordize your low-carbing, would these things help? In a perfect world, you could take these things and keep on track. I have a feeling, NO, to good to be true, but thought I'd throw the question out in case anyone has experience with this.....

Your "feeling" is correct.

If you do a search on "carb blockers", you'll probably find a lot of threads on the subject. I'm sure that if they worked, pharmecutical companies would be pumping them out like crazy and they'd be selling like hot cakes. If anything, they seem to just cause upset stomachs. I think you'd be better off just taking a fiber supplement before your "off plan" moments to curb the "damage".

They do block the absorption of a small amount of carbs, but at the expense of your guts. Believe me, the side effects are not pleasant...

They allow sugars to pass the entire length of the intestine without being properly handled by the correct enzymes. The net effect is that bacteria in the digestive tract have a large amount of substrate to feed on.
