Hi,
Anyone doing dairy free low carb? Do you find it harder to lose weight, not eating dairy?

I do eat dairy, but find when I stall, time to cut cheese. And measure the cream.

I’ve been dairy free for years. No trouble losing weight.

Eliminating dairy proteins is the only thing that worked for me to get rid of the last 15 lbs of inflammation weight that I could never lose on any diet while eating dairy. I also lost the chronic sinusitis & headaches that I now realize were related to dairy. I have been able to add back up to 2T of butter or ghee per day, and I don't miss cream & cheese if I can have a bit of butter in my coffee or on my vegs.

I should be dairy free - but I love the stuff. When I'm not eating cheese I feel so much better.

Thanks for the responses! I had to stop dairy due to chronic sinusitis.. headaches too. Doc was giving me a lot of Rx for sinus infections which another doc said my sinus looked more like allergic inflammation. So I stopped the dairy and all my "sinus infection" symptoms cleared up in a week like pressure, pain, dizziness! crap
oh the power of cheese. It kept me satisfied and not craving carbs. Now, I'm craving carbs again and I'm always hungry now.. Maybe its just the body adjusting?

Hi, have you been tested lately from Enterolab? I did that test too.. said I was gluten intolerant and carried the celiac gene. Took me years to get off the wheat. It was very hard for me. I kept cheating.. (I loved wheat .. I could live on bread. That's how much I loved it. Ice cream? Not me I loved cake and pastries)
I am finally off grains and have no more joint pain, indigestion, irritability etc.
I'm wondering if your intolerances to other foods where as a result of gluten intolerance and if you tested now, you may not show the intolerances anymore?

I haven't retested with Enterolab. I am actually quite satisfied with the way i eat and don't need to add anything back. I did try duck eggs to see if I could tolerate them because many people claim they are ok with duck eggs rather than chicken eggs but that didn't work for me. I feel so fortunate to have figured out what was making me so sick and I am happy to stick with what I figured out. Food is no longer a major preoccupation of my life.

I should eliminate dairy, but it helps me with my appetite. I don't eat a lot of it, but am unwilling to give it up.

I've given it up with success on the scale, but I noticed no other health changes with giving it up, or when adding it back. I would hate to give it up for good. It makes so much of my food palatable.

That's great if you're satisfied. I'm going through feeling deprived right now having to give up dairy. Red meat bothers my joints. I have a lot of intolerances so the weight loss helps me not to feel sorry for myself

Hey I wouldn't give up dairy if I didn't have to. I use the fake cheeses, like Daiya and the newer cashew cheeses which taste pretty good. It helps ...
I also use Tofutti "cream cheese" . It fills the gap a little.

I feel your pain. I do have a mental list of go-to staples if I did have to go dairy-free, probably from my earlier experiments and from helping out other members here. Let me see if I can find an old thread I remember...

A-ha, it's this one. The High-Fat, Dairy-Free Foods Thread

I'd be making a lot of Asian recipes and buying avocados by the case. The thing I'd miss the most - and it's one of my success weapons - is coffee at work to keep my appetite at bay. And no, I'm not putting anything but cream in my coffee.

I'll have to try the Daiya products some time. They're a bit pricey here, and I'm not sure I'd want to go with the weird ingredients, but if I had no choice and I wanted some damn pizza, I'd take my chances.

Thanks much for the link! I put walnut oil or macadamia oil in my coffee. I'm also allergic to coconut so I can't use coconut oil. My body noticed it right away the drop in fat. Was not pleasant. I don't even like avocados that much either. I'll eat them but I'm not a big fan. It helps to add more fat to my cooking like bacon grease in my eggs, evoo and I also use duck and chicken fat. I can't even eat bacon often because I don't do well on pork. (flares up my eczema)...

Mayflowers, I go dairy-free sometimes. I find mashed egg-yolks and tallow satisfying. If you can tolerate clarified butter, aka ghee, that is helpful, too.

I always lose weight and feel better when I am off dairy.
