Default Plugging away......

Greetings everyone,
I'm a 50 year old female from Vancouver Island, B.C. and I've been LC'ing since March, 99. The first time I went on the Protein Power diet, I did well.......lost between 25- 30 pounds over about 6 months and managed to keep most of it off for 2+ years. It's become harder and harder to not gain and forget about taking any of what I've gained back, off.

I exercise either at Curves or walking 4 miles 6-7 days/week. Between working full time, having a family and taking a course by correspondence, I don't think I can realistically up my exercise time. Other option is, to lower the calorie intake. Being a hedonist, I really would prefer to have my cake and eat it too so I'm being led kicking and hitting to that conclusion.

My latest thing is checking my Blood glucose numerous times during the day to see just what effect the different foods and exercise have on it. The 2 major peaks I've found so far, were after eating some fresh coconut and a handful of soda crackers.

Anyway, I'm glad to found this place. I just keep on thinking where would I be if I wasn't even trying. It's one more tool I can use to help me on this journey not to mention meeting some very nice people who are walking the same mile in my shoes!!

Ciao!!

Hello Aliz, welcome to a great forum.

Well done on losing the 25-30 pounds!
Perhaps keeping a journal here will help. That way you can log the food you eat and some wise folk will be able to offer suggestions.

I was interested to see you had a blood sugar rise after eating coconut. My SO and I both have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and are both largely symptom free since starting this WOE (way of eating). We both had nasty problems aftr eating coconut!

Good luck to you Aliz and please think about a journal. Info on "how to" can be found at the top of this thread.

Rosebud

Hi and welcome to this forum.

You have done really well over the last two to three years to maintain a reasonable low carb life style.

As you are doing, to loose that weight creeping back on, you need to look at the higher carb end of what you are eating and restrict it for a week or so to see if reducing carbs will start the weight loss up again without having to go back to an induction type phase.

Every success.

Thanks for your replies, Little Ann and Rosebud. The BG rise after eating coconut was interesting. I thought it would be a good thing to snack on....lots of chewing and the ECC was low since it's so full of fiber but I guess it has a lot of fat in it, too.

I've been thinking I should start a journal. It might help me get a clearer picture of where I'm screwing up. I more than suspect I will have to start watching calories as well as carbs, but geez, that's something I really don't want to do. That's why the low carb diet was so appealing to me to begin with but one of these days, I'll just have to bite the bullet. It's hard to be disciplined when there's no results. Have either of you done the Atkin's fat diet?
