Thanks, I needed to hear that. I was already overdue for a cleaning, and then the Pandemic hit.

Maybe this summer...

A dentists perspective of her experience ..... Teeth decay was supposed to be cured but instead dental decay increased. Dentistry is fastest growing medical specialty.

I used to get a toothpaste which had two stripes that mixed hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. I can do that homemade.

Recently I've been hearing that conventional toothpaste actually contributes to unbalanced microbes in the mouth. My head is spinning. Would like to see the research.

I do know from person al experience my teeth tend to be squeaky clean either by vlc or using only baking soda......

What with one thing I hadn't seen the dentist in four years! And I still was good on the checkup. It's the VLC and baking soda, I guess

Dr Berry interview dentist. A recent interview.

Starts with why dental health changed 12,000 years ago in the fossil record.

Cavities are greatest disease in the world today. Caused by disbiosis of microbes in the mouth.

My dentist visit went well today. Previous appointment had been difficult due to the fact that I went a long time without seeing the hygenist. I had been talked into putting a crown on a tooth that was giving me trouble. Long story short. Horrible decision. Should have just had it pulled. It has been pulled now! Trouble is - the missing tooth is a molar that makes it difficult to grind on all of the harder foods (nuts, meats, etc).
Last appointment she told me to try an electric toothbrush. BIG MISTAKE! I hated it! I don't think they are good for your teeth.
Went back to a soft brush, haven't tried baking soda, but you're making me think I should try it. Anyway, I LOVE my colgate 360 soft brush! A friend suggested it when I said the hygenist recommended an electric toothbrush.....
Had the best cleaning in quite a long while after using the colgate 360 brush

I am so sorry to hear about dental troubles. I had to opt for removal of a molar when a runaway infection started, but I've been happy with an implant for years. Cost effective when one considers alternatives when their efforts to "save" fail.

They can let an infection get out of hand, for instance.

Also, supplementing calcium and magnesium and understanding vitamin D levels are getting to be a fine art, and make a great difference.

Thank you WereBear!
Loved your comment about the green tea! "stewed cigar" LOL
I'm afraid of getting an implant. The missing tooth is problematic but it doesn't hurt. I'm glad it worked it out for you tho.

I have been taking calcium and magnesium for years now.

PS> dentist mentioned more teeth that need crowns because of crumbling fillings. NOT gonna happen!

Many dentists now try to save teeth.

Here is a 5 yo TED talk. Prevention. Prevention. Prevention.
https://youtu.be/YXSgL-aYlwg?si=18xMWsVx72EHSXx5

------------

Changing course in mouth care takes changing ingrained knowledge and habits.

Soft toothbrush.
Eat very low carb diet: many foods get stuck on teeth, meat and low carb veggies seem to prevent this. Potatoes really stick. Green beans dont. I also realized eating like a caveman leaves meat between teeth whereas cutting up meat doesn't.

Brushing with baking soda as needed, but it disturbs the microfilm. Find ways to support the biofilm. Why?? Biofilm repairs the teeth!! Teeth can remineralize!! Remineralization fills cavities!

Chew gum with a special sweetener: xylitol. Took some reading of tiny ingredient labels. I chew late at night before bed. And in morning, as I dont eat before noon.

Drinking washes away biofilm. Better to chug down water or tea than sip all day.

Cheese sticks to terth snd grows everything I dont want. Eating cheese as dessert , like the Europeans, opened my eyes to no no no. Cheese feeds the bacteria. Better to eat other foods that scrape teeth after eating cheese. Or just skip the cheese.....ya, right!( cheese is addictive.....a warning. )

I brush kess often. Only as needed. Flossing.....as needed to remove meat stuck between teeth. Why? I noticed the damaged gums in my DH mouth, he floss es every day religiously.

Sticking to low carb grows back the gums a little bit.. perhaps due to better tissue health, including all other tissues in body coping with inflammation due to SAD.

No fluoride. No bromated flours....well, no flours on low carb.

Added iodized salt. Not the perfect source but cheap.

There was a time when good health was a given. Sadly, it was when plenty of big fauna roamed to be hunted for meat. The grocery store is not hunting. Its not just meat. Im starting to see the grocery as a dangerous place......at least enough to enter with care, with a plan, with a list.

Gaining optimal health is a struggle.
