Mmmm, Demi! The salmon sounds yummy! Do you use actual mayonnaise, or a dressing/spread like Miracle Whip? And does anyone know if we can have Miracle Whip?

Also, I've been meaning to ask you for a while--what is rocket?

I use actual mayonnaise, and just mix the horseradish into it.

I'm not too sure about the Miracle Whip, as it's not something we have here in the UK. However, in the food lists (Phase 1 onwards) it does list Whipped Topping (see below), so presume that would include Miracle Whip. Perhaps someone else can clarify?

Quote:
SEASONINGS AND CONDIMENTS

All spices that contain no added sugar
Broth
Espresso powder
Extracts (almond, vanilla, or others)
Horseradish sauce
I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! Spray

Salsa (check labels for added sugar)
Use the following toppings and sauces sparingly (check labels for added sugar and MSG)
Cream Cheese, fat-free or light - 2 TBS
Hot Sauce
Low carb condiments, as long as they meet South Beach guidelines (have no added fat and are sugar-free/contain no added sugar)
Miso - 1/2 TBS
Shoyu - 1/2 TBS
Sour Cream, light and reduced-fat - 2 TBS
Soy Sauce - 1/2 TBS
Steak Sauce - 1/2 TBS

Miracle whip has sugar in it. I don't recommend it for SBD. Also, fat free mayo and many Light mayos also include sugar. You must read the ingredients. I just use small amts of regular mayo. I would rather have a few fat grams of instead of sugar. That's just my personal preference...

WHIPPED TOPPING would be like whipped cream or cool whip.

I hope this helps

I agree on the fat aspect of the mayo....the Good Fats, Good Carbs guide actually recommends that we use a soy based mayo(dairy free, soy based and eggless)....which I haven't tried yet.

I haven't tried it either but I've seen it at the shop. I don't use much mayo anyway but next time I shop for some I'll get that.

Today's planned Phase 1 menus:

Breakfast: Protein shake with spinach
Mid Morning: V8 Juice
Lunch: Tuna with a mixed green salad
Mid Afternoon: HB egg
Dinner: Grilled chicken with guacamole, mixed salad

I came across a 'recipe' for a protein shake at the weekend, where raw spinach was an added ingredient. I thought that this was a great idea for not only getting a portion of veggies in at breakfast, but for also adding in some great nutrients (which the spinach contains).

I decided to add a couple of large handfuls of spinach to my shake this morning, and have to say that it was surprisingly good. To be honest, I couldn't actually 'taste' the spinach, just the 'banana' from the banana-flavoured whey protein that I used. The only indication that there was actually spinach in the shake, was in the fact that the shake was coloured a vivid lime green!

I've been adding spinach to mine since I started phase 1 - 3weeks ago.
I agree. It's great as I get a cup and a half of veggie with my breakfast. And since I tend to also have a glass of tomato juice before I go to the gym. That's 2 cups of veggies before lunch.

The colour is gross and because I tend to add psyllium to mine it goes a bit slimy too. My work colleagues often make fun of my foul looking breakfast.

OK...I'll post my phase III menu for yesterday...

b- 1/2 cup yogurt, coffee w/ 1 tbs H&H and splenda
s/l - 2 hb eggs, 1/2 cup tomato soup
s- 1 cup chicken chili, 1/4 cantaloupe w/ 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese
s- 1 oz roast soy beans
d- 3 ozs chicken breast tenders in a large green salad w/ 1/3 avocado, 6 olives and asst phase I veggies + balsmaic vinegarette dressing. 1 cup berries
s- 2 squares 85% dk chocolate, 1 bran crispbread with 1 oz hummus, 1 TLC almond crunch bar

You can see why I don't post my menus any longer...as I eat like a grazer and my food is very spaced out....and I eat a lot!! It can be very confusing to newbies.
