Default I really need some advice here..Please

I went to the doc about 2 months ago and my colersterol was at he said a 6 and that is too high..I went home depressed cause he scared me. About a year before that another doc had even put me on statin drugs, I was at what she said is a 5, but I stopped the pills myself only after about a month. I have not been sticking to low carb either, my trys don't seem to have much staying power, so am I doing my body more harm than good?

I really don't understand the first thing about cholesterol.. But I am wondering if Atkins will hurt me more than help. I have been on a low fat program for that 2 months now as well and have gained 4lbs and feel so bloated and horrible all the time. I want to go more low carb again. This high carb gross diet is going to kill me in other ways....

Try reading some of the postings, the stickies, etc. Statins don't do a thing for women. Fat is good. Cholesterol is not necessarily bad.

Also here, Ladylaughs, I think it's okay to post this thread from MarksDailyApple, which is a Primal site (kinda low-carbish). A lot of people have referenced it before because the poster really did a great job explaning and I personally think our sticky is a tad confusing (but read it after you read the other). Here it is. Anyway mods I hope this is ok.

Again, thank you, wow there is so many different opinions, I am almost finding myself more confused. The doc did not tell the whole story, I think I may need to find out all the numbers that got him to the six

Try getting this from your library:

http://www.amazon.com/Great-Cholest...howViewpoints=1

It is quite technical, but even if you skimmed it, you'd get the general gist.

One chapter is called: "There is no such thing as a cholesterol 'level'".

Statins do no good whatsoever to women and, if anything, it seems that high cholesterol "levels" might actually help women to live longer.

You are absolutely right that "the doc did not tell the whole story" - he probably doesn't even know it himself!!!

Chances are your doctor has only heard the story told by the pharma company.
