Default Daily Mirror - Wants to hear our stories

I bought the daily Mirror today because of the headline 3 MILLION BRITS ON ATKINS DIET.
THe article wasn't to bad, as with most it brought up the girl who died in 2000, but they want to hear our stories of the Atkins Diet.

This is what they say: Have you had an amazing experience on the Atkins Diet? Has it helped you shed stones., or has it caused you serious problems?
Call us on 02072933947 tommorow between 9am and 5pm. Don't worry about the cost of the call we'll phone you straight back. Or you can email us at mirrorfeatures~mgn.co.uk

I really think we should all voice our opinions about what the diet has done for us, as I know it is a little different for everyone!

Lets be heard like they are now being heard in America! Low carb dieting atkins way or another is here to stay!

I'll be on the phone to them in the morning, maybe we can get a really good pro-atkins article if enough of us can explain the health benefits we're experiencing!

I hope so! Wish I had a copy of the email I sent but typical befuddled state of my comp... or is that me lol???
Feel like I should phone up as well lol.
In the Trevor Mcdonald Documentary, a NYC chef said that some treat the Atkins Diet like a Religion and that is so true!
I am not religious per say but to me the NDR is like a bible to me!

Default Christine-wrong e-mail

Christine

I spoke to the man at the mirror today. He said that he got your e-mail but he thinks that the web address was wrong. Don't know if you want to send it again.

Default He seemed interested

Dear Christine/all

I have to say that the bloke remmbered me, Christines name etc. and seemed interested. He said they were not sure what they were doing about it but were definately interested.

I feel that if there are 3 million atkins dieters plus other low carbers then they should treat us all a little better.

If 10% of us wrote to tesco or somerfield and said that we want atkins or low carb food they would have to listen.

People serious about low carbing for the long term need to think about how we can act together to get our views and needs across to the people that matter.

Sorry if I sound a little militant but it's the first thing that I have really believed in for a while and so it annoys me when people knock it.

Well one bit of good news, in the Trevor Mcdonald tonight show they were saying that the Atkins low carbs snacks and drinks will be coming into the UK in the near future, so I guess that is something to look forward to.
When you look at the sales figures for meat and eggs, its showing how much low carbing is affecting the way we are shopping, it won't be long before the supermarkets sit up and take notice! (I think that is why the TM documentary was done, not just because of the girls death in 2000)
Why else would the potato council be spending a million pounds trying to promote the bad bad potato, because there sales have gone down by 10% lol

Default Atkins products

This is one of the points I am getting at. Atkins want to launch their range of products over here in Jan 2004. The problem is that according to the newspapers the supermarkets have said they will not stock them. They say people should be following a healthy lifestyle. While still flogging fas and alcohol and such like.

If you can choose to smoke and buy the products on every street corner who are the supermarkets to decide what is healthy for us.

We need to write to the supermarkets and ask what they feel will happen if three million customers stopped buying their products.

Ops Tony's off again. I know.

Speak to you soon.

Tony

Well then I guess we need to set up some campaign! Make them listen! Might be worth talking to the guy from the mirror again??? Maybe they might be willing to do an article and a national petition to send to the major supermarkets??

The focus of all this seems always to be "Atkins" diet. I would guess in someways, part of the reluctance for teh media to go with this is its an American thing. Has anyone suggested to the papers that in fact this originated in UK........might be the angle to catch their attention.
