Hi Christabel

Have a look in the languages differences sticky at the top of this page. Often they are the same veggies, just with a different name.

Dont know what those other things are, but *jicama* is heavenly!
Gorgeous and sweet and crunchy!
I'd never seen it in the UK before, but heard that Cool Chile Co were selling it, so i emailed them.
I got a reply back from them which said they dont sell it anymore, but could get me some if i order at least 1kg. So i did... 1kg (3 fruits) cost me £14, including post & packing, which is ridiculous, but it was worth it as a one-off.

I asked her where she got it from, and she's in London and said she got it from a Chinese market, where it is known as Chinese Yam. (Jicama is the Mexican name)... so if you're in London (or presumably another metropolitan area) you might have luck finding it in a Chinese grocers.

Oh, btw... Cool Chile Co have stalls at Borough Market & Portobello Road in London. And they're also at www.coolchile.co.uk

I finally found some in my local Sainsburys. I am ashamed to say I bought out their entire stock of 3 squash I was so looking forward to trying them. I cut one in half, scraped out the seeds and set them to dry (will try to grow some from seed next year), then I boiled rather than baked the halves. This was a mistake, as the threads came out totally soggy and were difficult to separate. The second one rotted badly before I could cook it. The third was a total triumph. I pierced it several times and miked it for about 18 minutes on medium. The strands came out separate and were lovely with butter and black pepper. However, the flavour is practically identical to courgette, which we have a glut of from the garden, so the novelty value was limited.
