Default Wow - Country Style Ribs?

Not to sound unappreciative, but my husband shopped for our boat trip this weekend and bought "Country Style Ribs." It looks like cut up Boston Butt to me (no bones anywhere???? on a rib???)

I really don't know how to cook them. We do have a stove, a Nu Wave Oven, and a small gas grill also. I am thinking I might need to parboil them and hoping someone here can give me some pointers on how long and how to spice them, etc. I have some low carb sauce to use but am also wondering about some good spices for them.

Thanks!

I put them in a baking dish, add a few slices of onion scattered on top, and some lc Italian dressing - cover tightly with foil and bake at 325 degrees until tender. Finish on grill with lc bbq sauce so they get a little crisp. They are good, Alma

I cook them very similarly to Almajo except i start them at 450 for about 10 or 15 mins., then continue at 350 until done. Mine usually take 1-1/2 to 2 hours and I agree ... they are delicious! Any kind of a low carb bbq-ish type sauce works for cooking them in but they do come out better with the moisture. And yes, definitely cover until the last 10 or 15 minutes. Enjoy!

I usually cook mine in the oven (covered) for two hours at 350, with some sort of rib rub on them. They always come out moist and delicious!

I actually boil them in a big pot for about 30 minutes and then finish them on the grill w/ low carb BBQ sauce. They are so tender, they just melt in your mouth!

If it is Butt then I'd definitely do low & slow, there's a lot of connective tissue to break down. You can always finish them in a hot oven after you've gotten them nice and soft.

Country style ribs are supposed to have bones in them, but they're much meatier than other ribs. I love them. I haven't made them in a long time, but I plan to do it again soon. I think my last big success with them involved blueberry juice and a crock pot.

Sounds wonderful! I don't suppose you actually followed a real recipe? Just flying by the "seat of your pants"?

Yeah, I made it up. It was blueberry juice concentrate, actually. I probably used a tablespoon or two. Salt, pepper, garlic, maybe some chili pepper flakes... but it was so long ago, I don't remember.

Counrty style ribs are awesome! I use a spice rub on them and then wrap them in foil. Put them on indirect heat on the grill (ie: turn on the left side and put ribs on the right) around 250-300 for about 30-45 minutes. If you like the outside crispy, just toss them on the direct heat for 5-10 minutes at the end. They come out DIVINE!

They practically melt in your mouth and it doesn't matter if they have the bone in or not, they come out fantastic. I've done them both ways. I cooked up 4 lbs of them last week like this and they were gone in less than 30min... every bit of them. 4lbs of ribs for 2 adults and 2 kids... lol Everyone wanted to know when we could have them again. So much for having my leftovers for lunch the next day.

The Country Style Ribs I find at the store are indeed Boston Butt. I asked the butcher.

I cook them in a covered dish at 350º for 2 hours. I like them mopped with lc BBQ sauce.

I had a friend who was allergic to tomatoes, so I developed a BBQ sauce based on blackberry puree. It was absolutely luscious!

Our local grocery store makes fake country style ribs from the butt, and they cook up very dry! I just bought the real thing elsewhere and am looking for the right recipe for them! I'm thinking Asian spices.

How about braising them in apple cider vinegar and water?

I've narrowed it down to two recipes in Dana Carpender's 1001 LC Recipes book. There's an Asian one and one with interesting spices and DaVinci syrup. It's nice to have choices.
