Question Dawn effect and ketosis

I started LC diet 2 weeks ago. I have diabetes type 2. Still, no ketosis. Can it be because my gluconeogenesis is so strong? I have this Dawn effect that makes my FBC much higher when I wake up than the level I went to bed with. I am guessing that if my liver is producing an abundance of sugar in the blood, that may be a reason it is not producing ketones.
Does this make any sense at all?

How are you determining that you're not in ketosis? Urine strips? I wouldn't base it off that. There's a breath meter and blood meter that are more accurate. Urine ketosis isn't necessarily detectable for many people.

How many carbs you eat, how much protein (too much will lower ketosis) are the only two things that will keep you out of it or lower it, that I'm aware of.

If you don't want to spend money on more expensive meters, then go by symptoms like odd taste in the mouth, diminished appetite, fragrant urine and so on.

I used a Ketone blood meter and I got 0.2 mmol. I eat below 50 gram carb , but I don't count protein.

Hi...I have Type 2 also. IME, if I ate 35-50 g of carbs, there wouldn't be weight loss and probably not ketosis. I have to shoot for 20-30 carbs.

Have you tried depleting the glucose your liver has stored? For example, exercise or go for a walk first thing in the morning, or in the evening after your dinner has digested.

Along with watching your carb intake, some diabetics convert proteins to glucose very easily; you may want to lower your proteins and up your fat intake to help with satiety.

Yeah, your carbs might be too high. I can eat 50g of carbs and get into good ketosis, but they're half fiber carbs at the least.

What's your BG readings? Do you take them through the day? Also, 0.2 is considered "in ketosis". Do you measure them through the day also or just in the morning? You're right, t's not a very high number but it is outside the range a carb eater would get.

Thank you all. My BG have improved dramatically in these two weeks, so much so that I have had to reduce insulin in the morning after a couple of near hypos! During the day, they now seldom go beyond 140 postprandial. I may be eating too much carbs and too much protein. Also, I think I need to take it easy and give it some time. I may be a bit obssesive
