Default Carb count for wasabi?

I have searched high and low for the carb count - or nutritional values in general - of wasabi, to no avail. On Fitday the only enter is "root, raw" which gives around 1.5 netcarbs/tbsp - so the powder/tubed ones should have some in them too...

I have two tins of Japanese wasabi powder, but there is no info at all on them. Also have a tube of Chinese made prepaired wasabi which says; "INGREDIENTS: Horseradish, Sorbitol, Corn Oil, Salt, Water, Artificial Flavor, Xantan Gum, Turmeric, Artificial Color". *pukey* I wish I hadn't read that now... have downed quite a few of those handy tubes in my days... (Sorbitol??! Why?!)

Anyway, tomorrow is sashimi & cauliflower-"rice" day and I would like to record it properly on Fitday. (I've had a mad sushi crave the last few days...)

Anyone? Pliiz?

I have the following info from BuildingBetterHealth.com ...

Wasabi powder, 7g (1 Tbsp)

Calories: 24.00 | Calories from fat: 0.81
Fat 0.09 g
Cholesterol 0.00 mg
Saturated fat 0.00 g
Sodium 2.00 mg
Carbohydrate 4.90 g
Sugar 0.00 g
Dietary fiber 0.00 g
Protein 0.80 g

For the wasbi paste, I imagine that counts for prepared horseradish would be similar, so you could use that, and just customize the entry to keep Fitday happy

Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol, and is used in many food preparations (not just low-carb ) to keep the texture just right so the mixture doesn't cake or clump.

Unless you're using large amounts of this every day, my personal opinion is to just count as a seasoning or less than one gram ECC per serving.

Oh Doreen, bless. I'll register it immediately.
Great tips about the horseradish.

Well, as for "count it as seasoning"... I eat wasabi in bulks.
Can easily down 1 tbsp in one sitting... So, now I know that the result will be 4.9 carbs. And then there's the ginger, which I also love... and the soy sauce, and the daikon... Dang dangetidang. Well, moderation is the key, they say... *sigh* The words "moderation", "sushi" and "gilibel" doesn't fit together wery well, I'm afraid.

Thanks a bunch!

I thought Daikon was low in carbs??? Pickled ginger has Aspartame in case anyone's sensitive to that. Love me some Japanese food!

Daikon/radish is low in carbs, but the soy sauce isn't. It all depends on quantities, I suppose. I'm a sushi/sashimi gluttoner myself...

Cheers,
gil

For me it's the pickled giner. I can't eat the soy, and am really careful about wasabi intake...but the gari. MMM

Anyone have carbs on that?

Default Wasabi

7 g is just over a teaspoon, not a Tablespoon.

A Tablespoon is 15 g
