Just wanted to add ...

Wherever you purchase coconut oil in Canada, check to see if they charge the Gouge & Scrape Tax (GST) for it. Some places consider it to be a "nutritional supplement" so the tax is applied . Both Superstores in my local area class it as a non-taxable grocery item, just like any other cooking oil.

I have purchased my last two from a Canadian company online. They have a 1 gallon tub for $66 which is an organic virgin coconut oil. I usually buy two at once with a friend as the shipping is free over $99. I have been really happy with the taste and texture

wow, you all overpaid and no one listened to my advice.

1 gallon tub for $38 at Sears. It is now like $50 but still cheaper than most posted prices here. And it is the extra virgin kind.

Oh well. Next time I won't bother posting to questinos like this, LOL.

Thanks for the advice but I just looked on sears.ca and the 1 gallon was listed as 79.99. They did have one for 39.99 but that one was only a 54 oz tub. Is there another one on there that you mean. This was a nutiva brand I saw.

I bought the Carrington Farm Extra Virgin Organic at Amazon.ca (Canada) (with free shipping). Very good quality. Nice big 1.5 kg tub.

$17.99 for 1 lb online - now according to this website, 1 gallon of coconut oil weighs 7.36 lbs. http://www.coconutoil-online.com/me...oconut_oil.html

$17.99 x 7.36 = $132.41 so relatively speaking, Costco's is quite pricey..

Yes good prices, but not certified organic. So if that makes any difference to anyone then the costco one is extra-virgin, cold pressed and certified organic.

Has anyone ordered from there? What is the quality like?

I buy the Carrington's brand of organic cold-pressed at Costco and we love it. I think it ends up being about $1.12 / 100ml but it's been on sale there at least once and I grabbed a few at that time.

superstore carries suraj coconut oil: 1.79 for 250ml. it's really refined and no coconut taste.

i've used the carringtons as well and it's nice, but very coconutty tasting. i think it works fine for desserts but wouldnt want to use it on my eggs...
