I still have some outside things to do. You know--the best made plans don't always work out. My Dad sent me a box of iris roots, and I need to get them in the ground tomorrow, and I would like to put some more mulch down....and should move my ceramic planters in for the winter......is everyone else through with their fall chores???? I'm still trying to get my rototiller fixed so I can till the garden for this spring. I also want to get down to Home Depot and get some daffodil and tulip bulbs so I can have some flowers this spring. I wanted a winter garden but didn't get one in. Oh well, next fall hopefully.

Hi to all,
within the next week i will start sending in my catalog orders for seeds. This spring will be rough and i will be missing my gardening buddy who passed away in Dec.
I can't wait to start planning my new garden. I have a new gardening book Square foot gardening by Mel B and I will be looking at it before school starts.
I need to remember to renew my subscription to my Jerry Baker newsletter.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE GARDENERS HERE

Will be starting on two designs today for clients. I took a break over November and December, I have to get back to work.

I am so happy that even on this forum I can find people with my passion for the land and plants.

Hope you are all doing well.
Warmest Regards,
Joy

So who's ordering seeds and plants and where from? I'm going to order all my herbs in plants I think so I haven't done so well from seed, except for Basil. Flowers I think I will start from seed.

It has been really nice here (makes for a very dangerous summer firewise) so I've been out pruning and cleaning up my yard and garden. Grandkids are coming tomorrow and GD loves to garden so I am going to buy some pansies tonight. I don't think it is too early to plant them and it will make the yard look nice. Garden season is coming!!!

Hello Everyone.

Hi JAnn,

I can't belive that you are going out to buy pansies and I am here running away from the snow. The Groundhog said 6 more weeks of winter so I am hoping. Can't wait to get out and feel the warm earth on my hands. Have fun at the garden centre and in your garden.
Have a wonderful weekend Everyone.
Warmest Regards,
Joy

The low is supposed to be 2 degrees F here tonight. Gardening is not something I'm planning on soon.

Well I bought 3 six-packs of pansies, two lettuce, and glads and clematis bulbs. Today is supposed to be cooler and Phoenix is supposed to be windy so we probably will be also--but it's sunny right now.

I really feel for you guys int he colder climates. After 20 years in Alaska trying to grow gardens I really appreciate the weather here--and I do much better in the garden.

The downside of this beautiful weather is that we've gone almost 120 w/o rain and have our first forest fire about 60 miles from here. It's about 2000 acres right now and when the wind blow westerly we really get the smoke smell.

Hi JAnn,

Don't feel tooooooo bad that you have all the nice weather and we have the snow.
My gardens are so pretty right now with all the fresh snow, I have lots of evergreens and pretty shrubs and the snow on them is breathless. I would rather it have snow during winter and everything is pretty than when it's just cold and grey and no snow.

Have fun planting out.
Enjoy your weekend.
Warmest Regards,
Joy

I hear you Trini,

We had a house in SE Alaska with a small yard surrounded with evergreens. During the winter we would turn on our outside lights at night just to see the beauty of the snow covering the ground and flocking the trees. It was such a peaceful, beautiful sight. Sometimes I really miss it. I use to drive in all kinds of bad weather and never even give it a thought but now if we get a dusting of snow on the ground I think twice about going out!
