[QUOTE=khrussva]Maybe you had no weight loss, but you very well may have had some fat loss. My first 3 months I could not reliably weigh myself on the scale at home. I was too heavy. Once I'd lost enough and started weighing daily at home I as obsessed and stressed about the scale as everybody else. I had such a long way to go and I knew it was going to take a long time. It didn't take too much time before I started to see a pattern in my weight loss. I'd plateau for weeks (give or take a few pounds) and then have a 2 or 3 day whose. One time I went 5 weeks without a loss which was followed up by a 10 pound drop in 3 days. You can't lose 10 pounds of fat in 3 days. I'd been losing fat all along and it was being replaced by water as a place-holder. When I finally convinced my body that I was not going to fill up those fat cells again it flushed some water and closed those puppies down. Sometimes I'd plateau for only a week and drop a pound or two. More often than not it was 2 to 3 weeks at the same number followed by a 4 or 5 pound drop. Eventually I learned to chill out about the scale number each day. I learned to just wait it out.

If you really think about it, not gaining is a scale victory. What will throwing in the towel accomplish? Nothing good, I can assure you. You do your part and eat right. Eventually the scale will yield.

Thanks khrussva, I needed this! After some fluctuation, the scale only shows a 2 lb. loss in weight for January. One thing that has happened, is letting go of obsessing about the scale. I am still weighing each day, but with less angst. In other words you are saying trust the process.

Non-scale wins that keep me in a good enough frame of mind are 20 lbs down, since fall, change in clothing size, and 1/4 of the way toward my goal. Instead of having 80 lbs to lose, I now have 60-65 lbs to lose. Thanks for sharing your experience. It helps to hear from people who have overcome some of the challenges of losing weight and maintaining it.

90 Day Good Habit Workshop Day 1 – 11/5 Sat.

Day 55 - Tue, Jan 1, 2018
Day 60 - Sat, Jan 6
Day 67 - Sat, Jan 13
Day 72 - Thu, Jan 18

My central good habit at the beginning of this workshop was to record my food each day, no empty days, and at a minimum make a best estimate. That has led to lots of improvements along the way. I am making this note because, yesterday's entry has not been completed. Day 72 is a reminder of how important it is to record and to trust the process.

Letting go of the obsession with the scale is very important. I went 2 years without a scale and still lost 30 pounds by simply sticking with my eating plan. I now own a scale and am weighing myself daily and recording my weight every day. If I allowed my mood to fluctuate with every loss or gain on the scale I would be on a constant emotional roller coaster. I trust in my eating plan. If I start gaining weight on a regular basis, not just day to day fluctuations, I would change something about how I was eating but I try not to let the scale determine my mood or my behavior on a day to day basis. Also I remind myself that this is not only about weight it is about health and health can improve through eating the right things and avoiding the toxic foods even when weight does not budge.

Thanks Jean. I agree with you. Last night I started reading Gary Taubes' book, "Why We Get Fat." His information is helping me to stay on plan. Sure, I was about to give myself permission to increase my carb intake. Not this time. Be patient....

Yesterday: 31 net carbs - Not a bad day -- still keto -- but a bit too high on the carbs for this challenge. On more pass used. Bonus carbs came from the veggies in LC jambalaya at dinner and 2oz of 90% cocoa chocolate after a 2 mile jog.

Today is the day I begin walking at least 10,000 steps a day. Seems I have taken the past week off. This long a stretch hasn't happened in the 3+ years I've been walking. I did walk yesterday, about 5000 steps mostly in cold drizzly rain on mushy sidewalks with what Fitbit tells me contained the equivalent of 14 flights of stairs, so not exactly sedentary given the weather.
