Judynyc,
I love fresh veggies but have a problem..I don't drive so have to
depend on others to go to the store. Fresh ones just don't keep very long & are expensive.. I do have some frozen ones. I got to go today but only bought Kiwi, Black berries, V8 & tomatoes.. I also THINK I can have a couple of prunes for a change. I wish I could stock up every day or so but can't always do that. It is about all I can do is keep a supply of canned one to supplement the fresh & frozen.. I do buy grape tomatoes & got some cabbage to cook. Soon we can get good fresh tomatoes & veggies as a truck comes by the apartment once a week. Only problem is they are kinda expensive.
I am really trying to eat right as I do want to succeed.
Thanks for your help.

HI, Yes we all do have to do what we can and can't fault ourselves when we can't do better.
That being said, frozen are a much better choice than canned.
Yes, you can have prunes on our plan.
I make a great veggie dish by sauteeing thin sliced onions and cabbage both cooked in evoo, crushed garlic, red pepper flakes and a szechuan sauce I found at the store. Its great!
Yes, I agree that fresh veggies are getting very expensive! Do the best you can!

Not a normal day eating..

B: 3/4 cottage cheese Walnuts,1 cup V8, (was in a hurry)
L:Wendy's chili-small, side salad (wasn't home)
S: 1/2 cottage cheese, tomatoes
D: (taco salad lettuce wrap), cheese, about 4oz Meat with onions & bell peppers, salsa didn't measure, couple Tsp full or little more cream cheese, lettuce, NO CHIPS. I ate a cup of canned spinach before going to my friends Apartment.
S: 3 oz blackberries, 1 cup soy milk

Your dish sounds good.. never heard of szechuan sauce. It sounds Chinese.
I would leave out the pepper flakes though. I do need to check the recipes & get some new ideas

I have some very good friends that see I have a way to go where I need to. It is as much storage space in my refrig , freezer & cost as it is a ride.

OH YES, I use Viactiv calcium + vitamin D & K. it has 3g of sugar. I haven't been taking it because of that but do need to have the supplement. One of my other meds say not to take Tums. I guess I need to find something else without the sugar.
Thanks

The Link Between Magnesium and Heart Health
Q: What is the role of magnesium in heart health?

A:
Magnesium has hundreds of important functions in the body, from energy production and proper nerve function to muscle relaxation. Studies are mixed about whether its potential heart benefits come from the magnesium itself or from a combination of magnesium and other beneficial nutrients (such as potassium and fiber). Or perhaps it’s simply that people who eat a magnesium-rich diet are more health conscious in general. But there is no question that this important mineral plays a key role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Here’s a crash course in what magnesium can do to help your heart:

Regulate heart rhythm. Just as it helps nerve function throughout the body, magnesium is important for coordinating the activity of the heart muscle and the nerves that initiate the heartbeat. If your magnesium levels are low, you are more likely to be at risk for arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) and heart palpitations. While doctors can temporarily stabilize irregular heartbeats with injections of a magnesium compound, this is generally not done except in an emergency situation.

Prevent angina. Magnesium helps keep coronary arteries from having spasms, which is what causes the intense chest pain known as angina. In fact, a deficiency of magnesium is the most common cause of such arterial spasms.

Control high blood pressure. By relaxing the muscles that control blood vessels and allowing blood to flow more freely, magnesium may play a role in reducing elevated blood pressure, an important factor in decreasing the risk for heart attack and stroke. Magnesium’s effect on high blood pressure is further enhanced because it helps equalize the levels of potassium and sodium in the blood.

Limit complications of congestive heart failure. Because magnesium can help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of arrhythmia, two frequent complications in those with congestive heart failure, a weakened heart may benefit from getting more of this mineral.

Reduce incidence of prediabetes and diabetes and improve insulin resistance. Several important studies have demonstrated that getting insufficient amounts of magnesium increases the risk of metabolic syndrome (prediabetes), type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and the development of diabetes complications. Moreover, a magnesium deficiency can negatively affect fasting blood glucose and insulin levels in nondiabetic individuals (which often leads to diabetes). I believe, however, that more research is needed on the role of magnesium in diabetes prevention.

8.6 pounds gone in a little over 3 weeks! I am very happy with this. Still finding south beach satisfying and fairly easy to stick with. Planning to start adding a few higher carb veggies this week.

I bought some oat bran & really want some meat loaf. Do U think if I put 1/2 a cup in 1 lb of 98% fat free hamburger it will be OK. Everything will be OP. The loaf will last at least 4 days so it won't be much added each day. I had carrots for the 1st time today. Other than the addition of 1 fruit a day (Berries mostly) that is all I have added. Yesterday I bought some fresh berries & some frozen no sugar added so I won't run out.
Weight has been kinda up & down this week:

4/11- 219.0
4/12- 218.0
4/13- 217.4
4/14- 216.2
4/15- 215.2
4/16- 216.0
4/17- 217.4
4/18- 217.4

I liked the downs

I tried making meatloaf with oatbran once. It gave it a really slimy consistency. No one would eat it! If you've never tried it before, I suggest doing maybe a half batch at first to see if you like it or not.

Hi,
I'm glad that Char asnwered your question about using bran in a meatloaf. I've never done that so its good to know!!

Yes, we all like to see the scale go down. Too bad it doesn't go straight down but thats not the way it happens to any of us. Weight loss is not linear nad it chnages daily. But when the general trend is downward, then you are doing great!!
And you are doing great!!

Char & Judy,
Can either of U or anyone suggest a filler to put in a meatloaf? I guess I could toast a couple of slices of wheat bread & make crumbs of that. I have used quick cooking (not instant)oatmeal & bought bread crumbs in the past. The bread crumbs I have here are Italian with lots of other stuff in it. I'm trying to stay OP.
BTW my scales were very kind to me today.. DOWN 2 lbs. Today is weigh in day at TOPS. They are really amazed that I haven't had a RED Mark (gain) all year. At the last district meeting a couple weeks ago only 1 person went a whole year. I wasn't able to go but our leader told them that I hadn't so far this year. Only a few had even made it made it that far... no one here for sure.
