Default Food Before Exercising/football Game

I'm about to play in (another) alumni football game and in my old days I'd be loading up on carbs. What do you guys eat now before a long run, exercise regimen, etc? I've read that fat is not a good idea because it takes so long to digest but it is what will keep me full. I was going to pair a hamburger with some sweet potato - I can tolerate that now on my lc woe and plan on eating about 3 1/2 hours prior to game time (closest I'll have a chance to eat). I'll have a snack - probably a quest bar prior to the game, maybe an hour before.

Any other ideas? I follow a pretty lc woe - probably 50-70 carbs a day, still haven't eaten any fruit due to sugar spikes from previous lc journeys.

Thanks!

Hey there !

This is an interesting post - I am a bodybuilder and martial artist and workout 7 days a week now (recently upd from 5 days a week) so I found this a really good post.

Generally, If Im doing weights, compound exercises I will go for a very low cal and protein meal.. I wouldnt even class it as a meal really..just something so im not eating into Muscle and to keep me going. I normally go for a 2 egg omellette or perhaps a couple of bits of bacon...

Now.. thing is.. this is weight training.. not football or anything cardio/aerobic wise..I understand the question and its a tricky one becuase from what I seen you are certanly right you would load carbs if you were not following this lifestyle.

If I am on my cardio days ( sat/Sun) I tend to go in with nothing in my stomach at all. Iunderstand that might seem isane to you but I tend to find it boosts my fat buring drastically and also I am now used to performing on an empty stomach.. plenty of water of course though.

One tip for you.. You can have an electrolite Zero carb drink like "Zero Tabs" or even a berocca are good as they are only 1 gram of carb per tablet.

I would understand if this might not be the answer your looking for , the only other thing I would suggest is going for a leaner meat before like some kind of ceasar salad but with extra chicken?

hope this helps in some way :-)

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply - I went with my plan with the burger and sweet potato. Seemed fine I guess. I played a lot, I did get tirrd, but that's to be expected. I didn't have a crash or anything, felt pretty good. I think I might go a little leaner like you said next time because the burger did seem heavy. That was my only thought to help keep me feeling full and not starving before the game started though. I made it through though and that's all that matters. May be doing this again in the fall, so may tweak my plan a little!
