Default Enormous amounts of protein

I don't know whether to laugh or cry, but last night I ate a huge t-bone steak, an entire large container of Fage full fat yogurt, and three (count 'em, three) large centre-cut pork chops. Apparently, you CAN binge on protein.

I've been craving carbs for days but have been too terrified to give in to the craving. I know myself. In this mood, a slice of bread or something with a pastry crust and it's all over. Two years out the window. So yesterday I was doing fine all day: a couple of soft boiled eggs in the morning, broccoli and meatballs at lunch. Okay, the meatballs probably contained cheap wheat filler, but I've had them before and they didn't trigger a craving. On the way home I stopped into the supermarket to pick up a steak for dinner and 4 pork chops for the following day's lunch and dinner. Except for one of the chops, I ate the lot! I mean, that's POUNDS of meat. Then an hour or so after the last chop I was hungry again. That's when the big tub of Fage disappeared into my face. What on earth is going on?

So far so good today. Work was even more stressful than usual so I succumbed to the comfort of 2 vodka/diet tonics when I got home. But no cravings today so far, and a normal amount of food consumption. It's 8PM already so I think I'm safe for the rest of the night. But I'm curious: has anyone else eaten meat uncontrollably like I did last night?

I haven't had quite that sort of binge. Usually that only happens on carbs. Although I did make some lupin/coconut flour bread and ate far too much of it one night. Like 1/3 or the loaf. Oops.

I can easily over do it on yogurt though, so it almost never enters my house.

I have most definitely had huge protein binges. I've eaten over 200 grams of protein in a day before (lost count after 200.) I really like protein a lot, so it's not that hard for me to do.

Labhrain, it makes me feel better to know a protein binge is not unheard of for you, especially as you've done so well with losing weight and maintaining. It freaked me out though. Like Nancy, I'm all about the carbs. Spent my entire life binging on THEM.

I can binge on protein. A whole meatloaf. Steak, chicken, whatever. It's usually only when I'm hormonal, but it's better than carby junk. You are not alone!
