Default Hi I'm New to CAd

Hi. My name is Shalisha. I used to be a member of Greysheeters Anonymous and I was abstinent for 11 years. It's a very strict low carb plan and I lost tremendous weight. The problem was it was too strict and I was never able to eat sugar or anything I liked.

I bought CAD book 11 years ago but thought greysheet was the answer and didn't read it. Now I'm ready for something new because I'm tired of feeling deprived. Today is day one. I read the book and want to make sure I understand it.

1. Every day weigh yourself
2. Do the entry plan for 2 weeks
3. At the end of every week average your weight
4. Eat only foods on the list
5. Eat 2 comp meals
6. Eat one reward meal
The reward meal can be anything I want...

Do I have to eat salad at the reward meal. For instance, tonight I want to eat a pastrami sandwich, onion rings and 2 slices of chocolate cake.

Now breakfast was 4 oz ground beef and 2 cups green beans (no fat)
lunch is 4 oz turkey 2 cups salad (no fat)

I'm used to weighing and measuring my food from doing greysheet all these years. So do I have to eat salad at my reward meal too? It said I can have 2 slices of cake if I wanted to. I look forward to my reward meal. Please tell me if I'm understanding this.

I think the salad became required with CALP. In CAD I only see the required salad if you are following Plan C or D.

Curious why no fat during your CM?

BTW I'm just starting too. I'm on day 3. Hoping this will work....really hoping this will work.

Hi. Thanks for your response... The reason I don't want to eat fat at bkfst and lunch is because I know my dinner will be fatty. I don't have CALP only the original CAD. I'm sure it will work as I used to be on a similar plan for 11 years but it was too strict.

Also, exercise is important. Join a gym, do aerobics, lift weights. Work out a regimen daily.

hi-
from a greysheet to CAD and having all that sugar - IMHO it will not ba a great idea.

I think you really need to look at the options in the book- really balance the carbs/protein/veggies and have a salad too.
I know on the greysheet there is no sugar/flour/potato/rice-
so you can have anything you want but in moderation and in balance. Please read the book carefully.
I would never have that RM you wrote about- it would not work for me at all. I'd have lots and lots of coleslaw, maybe even a green tossed salad, and I'd skip the cake. For me, the bread and the onion rings would be more than enough carbs. If I really really wanted a piece of cake I'd skip the bread and onion rings.

I had roast beef sandwich for RM dinner on Sunday-
I had a salad, the sandwich on bread, coleslaw, and a handful of potato chips, and some watermelon. ANd I'm maintaining- not losing. When I was losing I would have skipped the chips and fruit!

We are here to help-
also look at old posts and the Cheat Sheet post-
and WELCOME!

Default Thanks for your feedback

Thanks for your feedback, but it was delicious and I'm fine. I still go to the meetings for the support so I'm not alone and I still have the principles instilled in me after 11 plus years of back to back abstinence. The slice and a half of cake was DELICIOUS.

Yea, the scale refuses to move for me too unless my RM's are really balanced. There are some people on this forum who said they had problems binging on their RM's but lost weight anyway. Not me and I'm only on week 3. I'm still working on perfecting my balance. I'll usually have a carb like a little bread with my protein/veg and some candy for dessert, like a couple mini candy bars or a handful of hot tamales (I'm a candy/sugar freak). I'm still feeling like I need a little dessert treat at every RM and I'm hoping to break that habit (as well as my caffeine and AS habit) because the second that sugar hits my mouth I feel like I can lose all control. Anyway like a another poster says "progress not perfection". If you're one of the lucky ones that can have that many carbs and still lose weight, more power to you - I'm jealous!!!

shalisha, welcome!

I am usually disappointed whenever I read how some people follow CAD. When I read the book I thought it was similar to CALP, but I will admit that it was a bit confusing to me. I only read CAD because I could not believe how others were following it and I was curious to see if what they were doing was what the book actually suggested.

I believe CAD and/or CALP can be healthy programs to follow. I also believe that eating a full meal of carbohydrates will not help to change poor eating habits in the long run.

What you do is up to you, but including vegetables in your meals can make them healthier!

Best of luck to you!

Swtmelissa,

How many of those successful bingers have been on the program for any length of time and are still losing weight?

I have been an active member of three support groups and I have seen many people come and go in those two years. There are some people that make the RM an all you can eat for an hour carb fest, and in my opinion, those people are only hurting themselves.

I believe that balancing our meals is the only way to make sure that we are including the right portions of food for us carbohydrate addict's. It is still possible to overeat, but at least we know that all those vegetables that we are consuming are definitely healthier than anything else we would be eating in their place!

By the way, I have been including a dessert treat in my RM from the beginning! I am happy that I did even though it probably slowed my weight loss, but I can honestly say that I am in complete control of my sweet tooth now!

I hope you discover that CAD is the right program for you!

Thanks so much Teri! Your words are very encouraging. I'm in this for the long haul and am already enjoying having more "balance" in my life. Your results are impressive and inspiring. Especially the part about having a regular dessert
