Post 2 Year Study of Low/High Carb Diets

Oregon Health & Sciences University along with Kaiser Permanente are conducting an extensive 2 year study comparing the Atikins diet with a DASH diet (high in carbs).

They're studying 24 men and women with strict adhersion to the diets for an 18 weeks period, then following up to monitor weight, cholestrol, energy levels and general changes in their daily life.

Should make for some interesting research.

Default Veeerrry interrressting....

Here's a little quote from that article:

~"Every year millions of Americans try low-carbohydrate and high-carbohydrate diets in an effort to lose weight. They do this even though very little is known about whether these diets are healthy or effective.

Half the participants will be randomly assigned to eat a low-carbohydrate diet similar to the Atkins diet. .... The other half will be assigned to a high-carbohydrate diet .... an eating plan that is high in fruits, vegetables, grains and low-fat dairy products, and low in fats."

Read between the lines. It is *not known* whether a high carbohydrate, low-fat diet - such as the one promoted by the USDA and most doctors nowadays - is healthy and effective??? An independent research institute is ADMITTING this?

Now THAT's food for thought!

Rachel
