Also keep in mind the the OP is just starting Induction; it can take a few months for numbers to show real improvement.

When you convert cholesterol, whether LDL, HDL or Total Cholesterol, from US Imperial measures to the "Moles" system used elsewhere, all measures are multiplied by the same amount, (approx) 40.
Therefore ratios stay roughly the same.

However because Trigs are multiplied by a different number (88ish) the ratio of Trigs to all Cholesterols is not the same in different systems.

Hence ratio Trigs/HDL in the case above is 1.6/1.2 = 1.3 in moles, but 140/48 = 2.9 in US measures.
You need to make a proportional adjustment in what is the "safe" ratio depending on the Measure used.

Incidentally the numbers quoted are almost identical to mine when last measured, three years ago, pre low-carb. I will be getting a workplace health check in few weeks and will be interested to see the latest results.

Adding a bit of olive oil in your cooking will raise the good stuff and like everyone says, after about 6 months, your triglycerides will drop. Also, one fish oil capsule a day will help up the HDL, and help keep the inside of your blood vessels smooth. Start that now when you are young and you will be pleased. (and your skin will look marvelous) Good for you for taking charge of things now!

Wow, thank you so much to all those that replied. Really helpful!

I had the same test done in 2008 and they have improved slightly since then. It is annoying because my doctor (GP in the UK) told me to 'cut down on red meat and fatty foods' which is exactly the opposite of low-carb.

Here are your correct numbers:

Serum cholesterol 6.1 mmol/L ......................* 38.6 = 235
Serum triglycerides 1.6 mmol/L ....................* 38.6 = 62
Serum HDL cholesterol level 1.2 mmol/L .......* 38.6 = 46

Your trig's already look good. Your HDL will go up, and your overall cholesterol will drop. However, you might want to keep in mind that these numbers will change over the next six months if you keep eating a LC plan. They will mostly likely go UP. Don't panic though - this is perfectly normal and expected. After six months they will begin to drop again, and a year from now will be fabulous.
