Question How many GI's are you allowed either by meal or day

I am about to begin SB but am confused, everything I have read says the low end of the glycemic Index, so do I pick something low each time I eat or is it a cummulative amount of carbs for the day? Is his Shopper Guide good for a person like me? Please help, I really want get off on the right foot.

Thanks

Default Hello Wonewok!

and welcome to the SB forum.

On SB we don't count grams of carbs. Most people find that while they are in weight loss mode they can consume 2-3 servings of starchy carbs per day and still lose weight.

Starchy carbs would include Bread, Rice, Pasta and Sweet potatoes. Personally I need to keep bread to no more than one slice a day.

Non starchy veggies are mostly low GI so we don't measure them like we do the starchy carbs. I eat those with "abandon" and I try to have 1-2 servings of fruit a day as well.

If you look on page 138 in the book there is a general guideline as to what meals should look like.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to support you!

Hi!
To tell you the truth I did not find the Sugar Buster buying guide at all helpful. It was just a generalized list of items like different fresh fruits, etc.
What I did find extremely helpful was the Brennan's Sugar Bust for Life, Volumes 1 & 2. Not only did they have great recipes, but a good generalized explanation of the program and a very specific brand-name guide to products, both frozen, canned and fresh, that meet the Sugar Buster criteria. If you can only afford one book, get Volume 1. It has the most general recipes of some family favorites, as well as their New Orleans specialities. But, if you love pizza, volume 2 has over fifteen different recipes for that family favorite.

Hope this helps,
Rona
