Default 4 out 5 ain't bad, right?

I thought I'd post my new numbers for those playing the home game. The first tests came in on Nov 28/07. The second batch of tests were run on Feb 15/08. Weight wise, I was down from 282 to 247. Food wise, I stuck to the induction phase and the first two rungs for the most part. I did have a whole low-carb cheesecake though. It never showed up on the scale. It's beyond belief. I also eat around 5mg of flax meal per day. Drugs wise, I'm on 10mg of simvastatin and a couple of BP medicines.

Now for the the good news: (in brackets are the US numbers.)

Glucose fasting:
6.8 to 5.0 (122.4 to 90)
A1c:
6.9 to 5.3 (124.2 to 95.4)
Cholesterol fasting:
4.4 to 3.9 (170.28 to 150.93)
Triglycerides:
3.29 to 1.32 (291.494 to 116.952)
HDL:
1 to 1.1 (38.7 to 42.57)
LDL:
1.9 to 2.2 (73.53 to 85.14)
Cholest/HDL ratio:
4.4 to 3.5

Now the bad news. My LDL is up and my HDL isn't up enough. For those that have gone through this, is this up tick to be expected? Can I expect an improvement the next time (in three months) my blood is checked? Did you? In the meantime, while my LDL is up, I started pretty low, so I won't be dropping those eggs just yet.

Haggis,
You have made great progress. If you look at some of my previous posts I was in a similar boat with my HDL. I read a lot on this board and the trackyourplaque website. Things I did were exercise, 1000mg per day of SloNiacin, 8000iu of Vitamin D per day, 4000mg of Fish oil per day. My HDL jumped from 41 to 68. My LDL hasn't moved but I am quite pleased with my Tri's, HDL and total. Maybe total time on this woe helps too. I have never taken statins or anything else for cholesterol, I was on BP medicine for 5 years, but am no more. Keep doing what your doing the numbers will get a lot better and hopefully you can be weened off the prescriptions.

Hiya lenjoe,
First a correction. I eat 5 grams of flax per day...not mg.

Anyways, thanks for including your numbers. I think we're pretty close and will start up on a couple of them. Vitamin d, I'm on already, but niacin and fish oil will start as soon as I go shopping.

Then we're see what three months of this stuff can do.
