Default Where to start?

I am 6 pounds from losing my 100th pound. I have achieved this through a mix of low-carb low calorie dieting and am very excited about it. I do have a problem though. I have been heavy most of my adult life (I am 27, I was heavy from about 12 on.) and my stomach is the biggest part of my body. I have tried working out doing various things but nothing I could sustain due either to boredom or other reasons, namely laziness.

I am now down to 240 and in clothes I am looking great comparatively but when looking at other people of a similar weight I look like a smaller version of my old self. My stomach still very much exudes the dunlap syndrome if you get me hah. I am taking this to mean I have almost no muscle to speak of. I was wondering where I can start, something simple that I can do to get into a groove that I can build on as I get into a routine. I know my weaknesses so I know I have to take this route. It is better to build up to healthy exercise than to go balls to the wall and then just not do it at all.

So, can anyone suggest something to build muscle? Again I am looking to start slow and build up. I know someone out there has to have done something similar. I have free weights and a treadmill but the treadmill is so cheap the noise it makes gives me a headache when I use it. I would rather use the free weights.

Thanks in advance.

David.

Hey David!

Awesome job on the weight loss!
The exercise is the hardest for me too.
I use my freeweights 3x a week ~ 30 min.& throw in some walking & swimming while it's still warm. Hope you find what works for you. Keep up the great work! ~Cheryl Ann

I have improved my stomach considerably by exercising in the water. I now have a wall of muscle all over my stomach.

It's really gentle doing it underwater. Ask at the pool if they have any polystyrene weights, and use them. There are lots of ways you can get your stomach muscles flexing underwater - just get in the pool and try it for yourself!
