Default Paxil or other SSRIs and Atkins

Hi all.

I have a question for people who are on a SSRI antidepressants like Paxil.

Have you had in problems losing weight because of your meds?

I haven't started my Atkins diet yet. I plan to in a couple months. I'm just in the research phase right now. You know, getting to know all about Atkins.

I'm just looking to find out if Paxil causes problems with loosing weight while on Atkins.

I'm not looking to get off Paxil. I have schizophrenia. I take Paxil along with an anti-psychotic med. They stabilize me. I need them.

But enough about me.

Could you please post your experience with Paxil and Atkins? I look forward to reading your posts.

Thanks

Hello! I'm not familiar with Paxil and weight loss but I myself am on Prozac and Wellbutrin. I've managed to lose 6 pounds this past month. Hope that helps.

Prozac is a SSRI medication, too. Glad you hear you are losing. Thanks for the reply.

not sure if this helps, but my ex (female) is on efexor and has lost 20 pounds since the fall. (I said female because sometimes these things work differently for males vs females ... although weight loss usually works better for the guys!)

Well, so far taking an SSRI does not seems to hinder weight loss.

1 month on low carb diet and I am down 17lbs.

I have been taking SSRI for several years and do find it hard to lose weight but then I'm old and find low carbing gets harder as time goes on - par for the course....

Many years ago, I took Paxil for a brief time and gained A LOT of weight in a very short time. It was so alarming. That issue, plus other unpleasant side effects made me decide to stop taking it after 3 months. Then, the withdrawal was horrific. I would never touch that drug again unless there was absolutely no other alternative and I needed it to survive.

That said, everyone metabolizes the various SSRIs differently, so you could have a very different experience.

Paxil (Paroxetine) would cause more weight gain than the newer "less anticholinergic" SSRIs.
