Thanks for the info. He's closer to me than I thought he might be. And he's in my network for insurance coverage. I'll let you know how it goes when I see him.

Thanks again,

Tim

Does anyone have an endo in Phoenix they have had a good experience with? I think I need to see one. I want one that is familiar with Schwartzbein.

Thanks, Marianne

Default about thyroid

HI Greenwings--

I can relate to your story. However, the endo that you saw is flat out wrong to say that thyroid doesn't affect weight. It absolutely does. It regulates metabolism and controls the body's use of free water. It is said that the usual weight gain is about 15 lbs. but lots of people can gain much more. You don't necessarily have to be tired to be low thyroid. There are lots of symptoms, and not everyone has all of them. Some people are tired when their thyroid is high! And, some people gain when their thyroid is high. That could explain what the other doctor told you. Best thing is to have a complete blood test testing all the thyroid levels including free T3 and free T4 and TSH and T4 and T3. That would show where you are.

Don't give up! I've seen oodles of doctors and have had plenty of disappointments. But there *are* great doctors out there. You might try searching for Mary Shomon's site about thryoid. She has a list of endos that come recommended by patients. Very useful tool. I called to report a bad experience with one that was on "the list" and they took his name right off!
