I'm a "food for fuel" person. I never used to be, I was totally addicted to carbs, yummy cakes, biscuits, candy, going out for wonderful meals. I still go out for meals, but I dont eat carbs and I go out to enjoy the evening. Its not about the food, its about the company. I dont understand how NOT eating bad carbs could ruin a fun night with friends lol

I guess I'm lucky that I've managed to turn this all round - my life doesnt revolve around whether something is tasty particularly - altho I only eat stuff I like - todays lunch was salmon, prawns, avocado and salad, with a huge dollop of mayo - thats my favourite and I probably wont eat now supper - or maybe not. It depends if I'm hungry.

The mindset is a very real thing for those of us who ran to food for comfort early on. It takes me continuous work, through meditation and going through the acronym HAALT to realize why I'm tempted to backslide at any one point in time.

HAALT:
  • Hungry
  • Angry
  • Anxious
  • Lonely
  • Tired
I struggle with this mental issue daily. To help myself and my clients, I decided to create a wallet card for us. On one side, it says "You're eating either for Health...". On the other side, it says "...or for Harm." On that side, I also include my phone #, so clients can call me when they feel wobbly about food.

The effects of what we eat are really that profound and stark. So far, every client's asked for 1 or more of these cards.
