Default Trying low carb for the first time

Hello all,

Been on a diet for most of my adult life, have always been a larger guy, 17stone at 16 years old! School wasn't much fun... Lost four stone when I turned 20 as I wasn't well for a couple of years and didn't eat much, ended up at 12st 7, looked great but felt terrible. Ate really healthily and exercised loads for four years, stayed around 13stone, but then work has taken over and I don't get time to exercise as much. Weight has crept on over the last five or six years, probably a stone a year, and now I've crept up to 17st 7, the heaviest I've ever been. Still eating 'healthily', but it makes no difference. I watch those 'Secret Eater' type programmes just in case I do that... but I don't!

In frustration, I'm going to give the low carb diet a go, I have very strong will power so I'm not worried about committment. I've joined the forum to get recipe ideas, and see how others are getting on with it, and also to recognise any side effects as they happen. I'm interested to read of others who have eaten 'healthily' and yet put on weight with a 'normal' diet.

Welcome, Dovie
I am sure all of us followed the "healthy" recommendations from our governments, and found ourselves gaining weight, at some time. I added four years of a low sugar, vegetarian anti-Cancer diet and put on 60 pounds.
Highly recommend you read the book Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes. You can check out a one hour talk where he reviews the information in it: http://youtu.be/qEuIlQONcHw

This is great forum, you will find help and support here, for the healthier low carb way of eating. All the best,

Welcome to the forum and if this is the first time you've tried low-carb then you are in for a wonderful and successful journey.
