Default Started Phase 1 Today

After always feeling disgusted when I went into the dressing room at stores and having to pick up a size bigger in jeans each time or a store not even having my size, I decided it was time to do something. I'm soon to be 17 and am 5'3" and weigh 172 lbs. I went to my doctor on Saturday who recommended the South Beach Diet. I have started Phase 1 today with my mom. Up until today, I was so excited about this program. I didn't think it would be this hard. I'm used to eating Puerto Rican food which contains tons of rice and beans along with other not so good carbs. Last night, my mom and I went out and bought all the food we would need. This morning we poured ourselves 6 oz. each of 100% vegetable juice cocktail. I couldn't take it. I felt so nauseous. Is this cocktail essential? or is there something I could do substitute? We went walking for 30 minutes after we ate our vegetable quiche cups and had some decaf tea. When we came back I could taste that horrible vegetable juice cocktail and had to go to sleep. Could anybody help with this problem?
Thank you.

Hi and welcome!
The quick answer is no...you don't have to eat or drink anything that you don't enjoy...veggie juice cocktail is merely a suggestion.
It's offered as an option if you don't want to eat veggies with your breakfast. I like some slices of tomato, asparagus and cucumber in the mornings and you should find some that you enjoy.
The whole point of learning to eat this way is to make it so that you will keep eating this way for life...not just to see weight loss. If you aren't liking the food, you won't stick with it.

Hope this helps!!

I can’t stand veggi juice as well. And the only time I use it is in the soup to up the veggie and you can’t taste it . What veggie do you like? I like tomatoes and spinach in my morning omelet. I also like cottage cheese for breakfast with a small salad. I am on the second week of phase 1 and I really like it.

Hi, I eat tomato, cucumber, a tiny slice of low fat low sodium ham, hard boiled egg or maybe an ommelet cooked with mushrooms/spinach/green peppers etc. Judy is right as always. You need to find the food that you enjoy. I have been on SBD for a year now.I could never carry on this long if I had to eat the food I hate.

Hi, supamik, welcome to The Beach.

Being one of those folks that just isn't hungry early in the morning or can't seem to "do" breakfast for one reason or other, I found that having a cup of soup (phase friendly) on mornings that I just couldn't eat helped. I think it's maybe because it's something I can sit at the desk and eat/sip on slowly w/o it going cold or having to dig out plates and utensils, etc. Really good on the go too.

Anyway, my point is, it doesn't have to be traditional breakfast food, or veggie juice(!)for breakfast. You just find what you enjoy that is phase friendly and have it.

Best of luck to you and your mom
