Default Help...why Am I Not Losing?

Hello Everyone,
Maeve here, checking in with a progress report and a question.
Well, I've been religiously following a lchf diet and have lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks ( 7.4 1st wk, 4.0 2nd wk, and .6 the 3rd week.). Obviously, things have slowed down considerably. Just .6 loss in my third week. It's kind of frustrating to be doing everything correctly (or am I?) and not see much progress. I would assume this early into my new WOE, I would not be facing a STALL.
I know counting calories is not necessary or encouraged, but I guess old habits die hard, and I do keep up with caloric intake as well as carbs. So, I can say that I'm averaging about a 1000 calories per day, and under 10 carbs.
Any advice or criticism is welcomed! Hope you folks more experienced in lchf can help me figure out what to do.
Thanks in advance for helping me.
Maeve

yeehaw!! There's a lot of posts like yours, where folks experience the initial weight loss burst in induction and then things begin to slow down. My recommendations:
-read an Atkin's book slowly and carefully, following all of it's advice, ensuring you're eating healthy fat, veggies, salt, eating to just full, etc etc
-post a journal on this site under Bootcamps/Journal thread where you can log in your food daily so you can evaluate your progress and tweak things, and where others can more accurately provide you support
-explore and read lots on this site, including journals and research threads

I think it has to be six weeks at same weight before it's considered a stall. Loads of people only lose .6 pounds per week thereabouts. So I don't know your age, but many of us in our 50s and up lose weight at a slower rate. I do LCHF and lift weights and do the elliptical trainer just to get that extra fat burning. But a person can do LCHF and just walk and they will lose weight. When weight loss is slow, ask yourself, okay .6 pounds per week will take a little longer to get to goal, but what else am I going to do, even once I get to goal? Nothing. So whether you lose fast or slow, doesn't really matter because once you get to goal, you'll still be LCHF each and every day.
Best of luck to you!!

Thank you Greekribs... I am 68, so that's may be part of it.
I will follow you advice and start a journal.
I really appreciate you taking the time to help me understand more about this WOE.

Hiya, Maeve!

Huge Congrats on your progress so far! WTG!

Your start weight says 185, so if you've lost 12 lbs so far, your current weight is 173 lbs.

Then you're progress is 35%. That's very impressive for being 3 weeks in your new WOE!

Like GR says, a stall is 6 weeks or more... some people even stall for several months.

Another factor to consider is that you don't really have that much more to lose (23 lbs) to get to 150 lbs and the less you have to lose the slower you lose it...

Wishing you continued success on your journey to better Health!

Hey, congrats on your amazing success so far!!

It's very common to experience a slowdown in scale weight loss after a couple of weeks of tremendous losses. Think of it as your body catching up. Are you measuring with a tape measure, or have you been trying on a snug pair of pants? You may be experiencing losses there even if the scale doesn't say so.

It's also common for weight loss not to be linear. The number on the scale will go up a little, down a little, down a little more, back a bit... Expect a sort of back-and-forth thing with your weight and you'll be a lot less stressed about it. For instance, I'm up a pound today for no discernible reason but that's ok; I'm eating clean and it'll disappear again shortly.

Well done!!

I see so much success in everyone's induction on Atkins. Bravo to you all! I haven't been very successful and only lost 2 pounds. I remember better success on this when I did it ten years ago. I will eat Atkins protein bars or have the recommended shakes they make. Is that stalling the weight loss? I'm not too savvy moving around this huge forum so I appreciate the responses. Thanks! Patty

My view, yes, some reasons: http://www.dietdoctor.com/atkins-gr...ry-tale-cookies

Would suggest you consider doing the original Atkins 20, that is total carbs, and only real food. Sign up for the Two week challenge at above website, that is based on the original diet as used in Dr Atkins clinic.

Those bars and shakes, aside from the fact that they DO tend to slow weight loss, are filled with garbage that is only there for one reason: to get you addicted to them.

I actually threw out my last bars, about a year ago when I finally figured THAT out!
