Default Which is more paleo?

I have an idea for a game we can play.

I was just in the grocery store, browsing the shelves, when I realized I was going to actively break the rules of the paleo diet. It was either going to be cottage cheese or Hansen's diet soda (sweetened w sucralose). They are both gas producing (in different ways), and both absent from our adult diets 100,000 years ago. The question became, which is more paleo, cottage cheese or diet soda?

FYI, I went with the soda. I think Cordain would stand behind me on that, but what about you?

Are you kidding!? Soda is pure chemical. At least cottage cheese is a one ingredient, whole food.

You chose poorly, my friend. To the dungeon with you

Cordain is the same guy that advocated against saturated fats, then changed his mind. Not an expert IMO.

I would have picked the cottage cheese - it's made from animals, at least. Soda is made from corn and petroleum.

Mix the soda with the cottage cheese and skim off the whey that floats to the top. Super paleo.

I would have taken the cottage cheese as well. I don't even like soft drinks.

Lol after reading this i think i will have to change my name to "cottage cheese soda."

Very interesting responses! Seems like the consensus is dairy or bust.

Round II, here we go:

Which is more paleo, green olives or a bar of chocolate (86%)?

Funny, I just saw the episode of "Family Guy" where they're playing the same game, but not with food.

This is absolutely the case. I love going to the market, walking straight to the back where the meat is, getting meat and getting out of the store in 10 minutes.

For me, I don't care about Paleo but see carbs as the enemy. In any situation, I will choose that which has the least crbs, unless it is a fake food like soda. Carbs are deleterious to the human species.

If the bar of chocolate was pure chocolate, no added sugar or milk, I'd take that over the olives.

Actually I think if you're counting carbs, even if the chocolate is unsweetened, the green olives will win for lowest carb. Not to put food in your mouth here, i mean you can eat whatever you want.

Both are processed plant products and are ambiguously "paleo." While one is sweetened with sucrose, the other is dense in salt. I'd say that the olives require less processing and are probably more paleo. However, I'd WANT the chocolate more, so I'd probably get that instead.

I've always hated olives, even as a vegetarian. I do not like bitter flavors.

Olives: they're Old World, and they're a fruit, not a seed.

But you really didn't give the chocolate a fair shake by making it 86%. How is refined sugar ever going to be Paleo? Okay, curing olives is modern, but it's older than sweetening chocolate by several thousand years.

Just browsing through and caught this post...I'm new to the Paleo WOL.

Are olives non-paleo? This would probably be good for me, as I already know they are a trigger food (I can eat them by the handful but the salt always makes my hands bloated the next day).

Never was a chocolate person...
