Default has anyone tried this product?

Has anyone tried this product? A friend uses it.

Trim Healthy Mama Gluten Free, Low Glycemic, High Fiber Baking Blend

It's on Amazon, 1/4 cup is 1 net carb but there are 2 sugars (that sounds like a lot to me), thoughts?

I don't usually try to recreate breads etc. but I do enjoy some shiritaki noodles.

that sound like a lot too me but I choose my carbs carefully I wonder how a product would be labeled if it contained 10g of sugar and 10g of fiber - Would that be called "Zero Carb"?

In that product if I says there were 2g of sugar per serving, that's what this net carb counter would go with. When I look up a food I use this as a default site:

https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/...manu=&fgcd=&ds=

I subtract the fiber from the total carbs, so this is 4 per 100g

If you get it, let us know what you think. I'll try anything once

My friend bakes bread and makes waffles with it and loves it but she's perhaps not as strict as I am. I'll find out more and report back but probably won't buy it right now.

BTW Thud, your weight loss is VERY impressive.

Good job! Are you at goal weight now, or close to it?

Thanks 1DogDay I don't really have goal weight. I guess I'll find out what that is when I stop loosing weight and am still eating comfortably. Since my diet was not like this when I was a younger man, who knows what that number/range may be, heck, I might even be at it now since only time will tell.

Hold up there, gang!

Sugar is one type of carbohydrate. It isn't possible to have 2g of sugar and 1 net carb. This label simply subtracted the fiber from the carbs for you (some countries do this, the US leaves it as up to discretion of manufacturer).

This means the serving has 12 net carbs, plus 11 fiber.....so 23 carbs, 11 of which are fiber= net carbs of 12 (2 of which are from sugar).

Sorry to rain on your parade.

Robin, the label says 12 g of carbs (23 g was for the sodium).

OMG, are you saying that they are allowed to not put the total carbs where it says carbs? Yikes!

Oh the 23 for sodium is just a coincidence.
I said 23 total carbs, because they list 12 carbs and 11 gram fiber, but list 2g sugar. This is impossible as sugar is a type of carbohydrate unless they already deducted fiber from carbs for you. Some countries do this. In US some will (particularly companies advertising as low carb, which these people are). Other companies don't, which just makes it confusing. We really need a law so everyone does same method.

Default re: Trim Healthy Mama Gluten Free, Low Glycemic, High Fiber Baking Blend

Ingredients: Oat Fiber, Organic Coconut Flour, Golden Flax Meal, Blanched Almond Flour, Collagen Peptides, Glucomannan (organic konjac extract powder)

Nutrition Facts

serving size 1/4 cup (24g)

calories: 60
total fat: 3g
total carbohydrate: 12g
... dietary fiber: 11g
... sugars: 2g
protein: 6g

First, the weight of one serving = 24g .... minus 3g fat and 6g protein = 15g remaining. So the total carbs can't possibly be more than 15g .

Let's do the calorie math, based on 9 cals per gram of fat, and 4 cals each per gram of protein and carbohydrate.

9 x 3g fat = 27 cals
4 x 6g protein = 24 cals

60 total calories minus (27 + 24) = 9 calories remaining, which must come from digestible carbohydrate.

9 cals divided by 4 = 2.25 g of digestible carbs

They've probably rounded the fiber and sugar grams up and/or down to the nearest whole number

One word of caution about the high insoluble fiber content (10g per serve) ... I wouldn't go overboard consuming multiple servings at one sitting. Even though "net carbs" would still be lowish, such a high fiber load can (a) cause digestive distress and bloating .. and .. (b) block the absorption of important minerals such as calcium and magnesium, as well as some prescription meds

Glucomannan goes right through me!

But that's true for me with so many foods. Those of you who can eat it are lucky.

For carbs on labels, I ignore net carbs & count only total carbs. Makes my life easier.
