What if I can't do HRT?
Dr. Schwarzbein states numerous times in her books that you have to address all your hormone levels or you will never be able to completely heal. I cannot take HRT because I had blood clots in the small veins on my lower legs when I was in my 20's. This was believed to have been caused by The Pill. I have some lovely scars to show for it and have been unable to take birth control pills my whole life. So, it's not a possibility for me to go the HRT route and I'm now in menopause (at age 50).
What are my options, if any? I'm currently taking simvastatin for high cholesterol values, fish oil and other supplements to help raise HDL, glucopage for insulin resistance/borderline diabetic. My doctor says that with diet and exercise I may be able to stop taking both the simvastatin and glucopage in 3-6 months. So, I'm trying to follow SP as closely as I can, excercising, and taking more pills daily than I ever thought I would...my goal is to be completely off rx meds. While I would love to be a slimmer version of me, I'm ultimately more concerned with aging well...with fewer health issues.
If I understand Dr. Schwarzbein, I will never accomplish this without HRT? Am I reading that right? Help!
Any input would be appreciated!
