I have two issues with going out:
1) the cost.
2) You never *really* know what they are putting in the food unless you cook it yourself.
I find myself brown bagging primarily. I'm trying to scale back from my cold cut use because of all the added flavoring agents and excess sodium. I usually bring dinner left overs. I have a really busy schedule, and I cook extra to last 2-3 days. Last night, I got home at 8pm and roasted a chicken by 10:30p. It doesn't really need a lot of attention.
Frozen fish fillets are handy because they thaw in your lunch tote and if you've mastered the microwave, they are ready to eat in 2-3 minutes and are great with butter! (Oh I love butter!)
I made a tuna salad with cream cheese (yea, sounds weird) and hard boiled eggs (a little onion, a little celery) and pre-portioned it into 1 cup containers. I just take one out of the fridge and drop it into my lunch tote. It makes a good dip for celery, or you can make a lettuce wrap with it.
Near my work there is a gourmet market that sells fresh produce, the most incredible salad bar (with eggs, chicken, cheeses, bacon, seeds), fish counter, deli, cheese case... I'm never without lunch if I forget it at home.
Some of the local bar/grill chains have low carb entrees that omit the starch, and many lunches start at 5.99. Beware the BBQ sauce!
