Default WheyHey Ice Cream - UK

I stumbled across these guys this morning after they replied to one of my tweets about low carb & clean eating www.wheyhey.co.uk/wheyhey-protein-icecream-menu

Their ‘icecream’ has 5g of net carbs per 100ml.

The ingredients for their vanilla flavour are: Water, Whey protein isolate, xylitol, whole cream, emulsifier: mono/diglycerides fatty acids, Stabilisers: Locust bean gum, guar gum, carrageen, vanilla flavour.

Anything there that looks particularly alarming or could this be an Atkins friendly ice cream substitute?

Hmmm. Then..that's what I've been making in my very own home! Yep...for 14 years. Whey powder in the blender...then a little cream...and perhaps cocoa or whatever flavor you want...and then put in frozen berries...or I'll put in PB w/cocoa...and if you use frozen berries or ice first...it becomes soft serve ice cream ...oh, without all the other stuff (although I have used bean gum and/or guar in it to make it thicker and hold up in freezer..if I wanted harder ice cream.

Does that cost a lot?

It is £2.69 which is about half the price of a tub of Ben & Jerry's so not too bad.

I guess it would be pretty darn easy to make my own, but I like the idea of being able to buy a tub of something like this that I can eat guilt free...especially off the cuff like last minute movie nights etc. Might give it a go, especially with this run of good weather we're having here at the moment.

But Ben and Jerry's is 500ml and this ice cream is 150ml, so comparably it is more expensive.

Ahhhh, I thought the £2.69 was for the 500ml tub. Can't actually find it to buy online at the mo but might pop in to my local H&B and see if they have it and check out prices/offers etc.

http://www.ocado.com/webshop/produc...-Cream/99447011

Ocado do the 500ml tub for £6.50

ETA: I've added to my current order one each of the small tubs to try and will report back.

Oooh, thanks Lee - I couldn't find it on the Waitrose website but will put a tub on order when I next do an online Ocado shop.

It's fairly pricey but I don't have a massive sweet tooth and a tub would likely last me ages (I threw out an unopened tub of Ben & Jerry's Phish Food a few months ago, it had been in my freezer for 2 years!!) - just nice to have something on hand sometimes!

Tried this ice cream - vanilla and also chocolate. It tastes OK, but isn't worth the price. I can make better ice/cream smoothie at home with protein powder, and for less cost.
